MY AGE: 5 years old WEIGHT: 78 lbs.

MY STORY: She's a typical happy go lucky lab. Just happy to be doing whatever you are. Loves to be outside and go for walks and play with the other dogs.

Atenas is in a foster home and here's some updates on her progress:
May 2025:
Time flies when you're having fun! We're loving our time with Atenas but it's even more of a reason that she should be enjoying her days with her forever family. Everyday is a great day with Atenas. She's happy, well behaved, wants to be with you and gets along with everyone that she meets!
Likes: playing outside - walking, hiking, running; car rides but she does need properly restrained otherwise she will want to try out every seat in the car, being with someone (human and/or dog), she's very loyal and aims to please, she likes to be petted and snuggle when she's tired
Dislikes: She will play with a dog toy for about 5 minutes a week, she's just not that interested. Even though she loves to be outside, she doesn't like spending time outside alone. She'll come back in if no one is staying out.

Training:
housetrained
Crate trained- we don't keep her in a crate on a regular basis but she will go in and you won't even notice she's in there- she's quiet and will just sit there
Commands- sit, stay, come, no
Leash - we have been hiking more off leash lately but we do walk her w/ a leash and she'll benefit from continued training
After just a couple weeks she learned to stop jumping on the counter. She's a smart dog and will continue to flourish to meet her owners expectations

April 2025:
Atenas has been with us for 6 days and has acclimated incredibly well to our home. She is exactly what you would expect from a Labrador Retriever- great temperament, loving, friendly, social, affectionate, playful, good with other dogs, active, intelligent and loyal. She is the entire package of a great family dog! She's looking for her forever family that she can be an active part of.
Atenas thrives on companionship and aims to please. She likes to give kisses and prefers human attention versus dog toys. She will often use her paw to tap on you, letting you know that she wants pets or even at the end of the day to rest her arm on you to show love and comfort. She has a gentle sweet demeanor with a 75 lb frame. She thinks she's a lap dog. She listens and comes when called.

Atenas has gone to the dog park 3x so far and really enjoys it. She does great with the other dogs and has fun running with them. Most of the time she'll walk around sniffing all of the scents. She's a natural at trail walking off leash. She'll stay within 20 feet of you, if you change directions she will come when called and she appropriately greets other people & dogs that she meets on the trail. We have a lot of deer that go through our back yard- Atenas is curious and will watch them but will not bark nor try to chase them.

Atenas is smart and trainable. She is potty trained and has had 0 accidents since she arrived. She is crate trained. Currently, she's only using the crate to eat in so that she can't access the other dog's food while they are eating. Otherwise, she is well behaved and not crated when no one is home. She knows basic commands: sit, come, off and no. She is quiet and rarely barks. She is a counter surfer and she's doing better every day but those smells are so tempting! We're also working on leash training. As with most young labs, she will need regular exercise and activity.

Atenas is approx 75lbs. She is 99% chocolate brown with a few beautiful blonde highlights across the top of her back. She is approx 25"long (base of neck to base of tail) and approx 22"tall (ground to shoulder blades). While her background information is limited, she was used for breeding and recently had a litter of puppies. Atenas can easily be the only dog in the house but a playmate would offer additional companionship. She is currently fostered in a home with a 9yr old female chocolate lab.

To adopt the FIRST STEP is to complete an APPLICATION.

Adopters must be 24 years of age. We can not adopt to families with children under the age of six. We also only adopt in WI, IL, and parts of MN. Most of our dogs are strays, so the breed is our best guess.
