This handsome guy is Astro. He is up for anything life has to offer, car rides, playing with toys, going for walks, and running in the backyard.
Astro is an active, happy boy that would do well with a family that would provide him with love, exercise, and playtime. He likes his puzzle toys to keep his mind busy when he’s not running around outside or napping. He has amazing recall and is very food motivated, great combo for training! His forever family should commit to continuing his training.
Astro has done great with potty & leash training. Astro is living with 2 foster dog siblings that he is learning manners from. He knows sit and comes when he is called. He shows no guarding of food or toys with them or his foster. He would do well with another dog with the similar energy level.
He knows “time for bed” and will walk into his crate himself for nite nite & sleeps quietly in his crate all night. He does not love daytime crate, which has only been for a few hours at a time. He will go in & is not destructive of his bedding, but whines at the beginning. He can be vocal if there is a knock at the door & is working on not jumping when his foster human comes home (super excited!). Astro can also be a little mouthy, which his foster folks are working on - this is not biting, it’s him using his mouth because he doesn’t have hands. These are all very trainable puppy behaviors with patience and commitment.
He also thinks he is a lap dog and LOVES to cuddle and always be near his humans. Astro is a super loving & affectionate dog. Astro is a terrific dog! He has so much love to give & will make a wonderful companion for the right person.

After your application is approved, the foster parent for the dog you have selected will contact you to answer any questions you may have and determine if that dog is a good match for your family.
If you have no particular dog in mind, we will be happy to keep your application on file and notify you if the right dog should come into rescue. Catahoula Rescue of New England is an all-volunteer group. Dogs in our program are fostered by volunteers. The foster homes care for our dogs as if they were their own. All dogs have received vaccinations appropriate to age and are spayed or neutered.
Astro’s adoption donation is $400 which includes Rabies, DHLPP, Bordetella, fecal test, heartworm test when appropriate and is on preventative, microchip, and neuter. We do not have a physical shelter, all of our dogs are fostered in individual foster homes across the New England and Canada.
