Meet Astro

2/14/20- ADOPTED!

** 1/18/20- Adoption Pending- ASTRO's corn was removed and toe got infected and went on new meds. Having a hard time healing. He is ready to feel better and run around! Working to get his health stable before adoption.

* 12/20/19- ASTRO having flare up with IBD due to Cephalexin and Ketoconazole for fungal infection on stomach and infected toe. The corn will have to be surgically removed.

*SPECIAL NEEDS BOXER*- We need DONATIONS to help with his food- dry and canned, and vetting. Donate at BoxerRescueOfTexarkana.com or click on SPONSOR on his Petfinder page. He gets his food from PetsMart, so gift cards are great too.

* 8/18/19- ASTRO hasn't had another seizure.

* 6/21/19- Today he had his 6 months exam, Bordatella, ProHeart, fecal and heartworm negative. Vet thinks his spells he has had last couple of weeks are seizures, so we will keep monitoring him and recording.

* 6/13/19- On Medical Hold- while we evaluate Astro further, as has spells where he doesn't feel good all of a sudden and tail goes between his legs and acts scared and sick. Think is IBD but not sure so we keep monitoring. His play time is decreased and stays a lot next to his Foster Mom.
-------------------------------------------------------------
ASTRO, 2 years old, DOB 1/15/17, 58 lbs, DEAF, has his long tail and natural ears. He is a fun Boxer full of love and happiness. He needs lots of attention and patience. He gets too excited when he gets out of his crate so working on him not jumping up on Foster parents. He is in a foster home with other Boxers and does great. He is not aggressive. He is a very loud barker and whiner when he can't see you or time to eat. We tried the citronella no bark spray collar and no bark vibrating collar with no success.

He has quite a history with us since 9/4/17. In 2/18, he had a scope and biopsies since he was losing weight, vomiting, skinny and was sick for months. He was diagnosed with mild IBD (Inflammatory Bowel Disease) that is controlled with diet. He eats Pro Plan Salmon/Rice Sensitive Stomach, 1/2 dry, 1/2 can, spoonful of Chobani greek yogurt at each feeding 3x a day. It is not mixed together. If we up the amount of dry food then he vomits.

On 9/26/18, ASTRO had his first seizure and took 24 hours to get back to himself. He did go to the Vet. We have not seen another seizure. Vet doesn't thinkit was related to his IBD.

He is a handful and needs supervision and tough toys as he is a chewer and get things off of table or dresser. He will eat holes in blankets. He doesn't like leaving his Foster Home and a struggle to get the harness on and out the door. His tail goes between his legs at the Vet and at PetMart,for training, but in his Foster Home his tail is curled up and he is on GO! He is like a 2 year old kid full of too much energy, stubborn at times, full of love, and loves playing rough with the other boxers. He has to be crated in secure plastic crate. Needs Adopter with deaf and boxer experience. He has to be an indoor dog with safe fenced in yard required. He needs at least a 5 feet fence. He has to have a companion dog his size to be his buddy since he is deaf and one who will play as Astro loves to play! He really is an awesome Boxer! **We know it is going to be hard to find the right forever home for all his deafness, IBD, separation anxiety, and seizures. He is a great Boxer!

***GO TO: BoxerRescueOfTexarkana.com to How to Adopt for Requirements and the online Adoption Application. He is neutered, shot, rabies, microchipped, fecal/heartworm negative and on ProHeart for hw protection. Adoption fee is $275.

We adopt in AR, TX, LA and OK in areas where we have support. Please let us know if you are out of this area and where you are located to see if we could consider your area.
