Astra's name suits her - she's a tiny shooting star! She's intelligent and has an independent streak. Some new loud noises and experiences are scary, so she will turn to you to make sure everything is okay. Once she feels safe again she'll go about her business or decide it's time to investigate!

Astra likes all humans and will greet them with excited kisses and wiggles. She loves to follow her foster kitty siblings around the house so will do well with a dog savvy cat. She's wonderful with her foster dog siblings who are much bigger than her.

Astra is one smart cookie! She is already learning some basic commands and will be easy to train since she is

extremely treat/food motivated.

She doesn't realize how sharp her tiny teeth are, so we're working on bite inhibition. Puppies tend to mouth, play bite and nip, so may not be appropriate for young children.

Astra loves obstacles and tunnels! She passes back and forth through kitty tunnels like a pro, wriggles underneath coffee tables, and bounces over taller objects with ease. Her smarts and talent, combined with proper training, would make her an excellent dog for agility sports!

Right now she has a pretty typical puppy schedule - potty, zooming around, potty, eat, potty, sleep, potty, repeat. As long as she's gotten a chance to run and play several times a day she settles nicely in her puppy pen. She sleeps in her puppy pen and any adopter will need to work with her slowly on crate training. She has mostly figured out potty pads and that going outside means potty time, but being so young potty skills are still very much a work in progress due to her limited physical ability to "hold it".

Astra has only had one set of puppy vaccines so she cannot live in a home that doesn't have their own yard where she can be taken for her potty breaks. She is still

susceptible to diseases and cannot go into any public area or common area for potty breaks. She therefore cannot live in an apartment. A townhome must have a dedicated outdoor space.

EVERY DOG HAS A STORY: Astra and Estelle were part of a litter that was surrendered to a shelter when they were 6 weeks old. Best Friend Pet Adoption wanted to provide good homes for these sweet girls so admitted them into our rescue. We were told their Mom was a German Shepherd but if so, the Dad was probably a lab since the puppies look to be lab mixes.

Some of the information contained in this biography includes approximations based on our expertise and is not guaranteed. Applicants must live no further than one hour from Cary NC as our dogs must be seen by a BFPA veterinarian for all medical care prior to adoptions being finalized. Any adopter must be able to come to the Cary area for future medical care until Astra is spayed at around 6 months. BFPA covers the cost of all medical care until the adoption is finalized.
