Meet Bolt

Hi, all, I’m Bolt! First, I'd like to start off by letting you know that I am in a foster home! If you would like to adopt me, just call Michiana Humane Society at (219) 872-4499.

Anyways, I was named for that white streak of lightning down my forehead. I was thinking of going with Harry Potter, but my bolt just doesn’t have enough zig zag panache going on to pull it off. Bolt works for me, as I can probably outrun Usain Bolt and afterward finish a marathon at the front of the pack. I’m one active guy, up for whatever you want to throw at me. Want a walking or running partner? Give me a try!!

I’m also not just a rough and tumble guy. I do have my soft side. I have a fabulously soft coat, but it’s short to minimize shedding. Unless you initiate play with my fetch ball or pull toy, I am so chill at home, lounging on my dog bed or the couch, chewing a bone, or lying on your feet while you stream a favorite show. I won’t always be in your face demanding attention, but I’ll certainly smile and enjoy any attention you shower on me. I’m the perfect combination of endless energy when you want it, but also non-stop snuggling when it’s time to relax.

Speaking of energy, let’s talk about water! I LOVE water: lakes, streams, sprinklers, a hose streaming water. I’ll bite at the water, run and play. At the beach I’ll chase waves and then do my favorite thing: roll in the sand. The beach is so awesome, and you humans spend so much time and money getting to one, I’m happy to help out. Leave our sliding door open just enough for me to wiggle in, and I’ll shake the beach all over. Since the beach is so awesome, why not bring some home?

I take my food and treats gently. You can also pick up my bowl mid-meal or my chew bone while I’m gnawing away, and I won’t react. I’m pretty good on walks unless I see darting Scooby Snacks (AKA: squirrels or rabbits). They’re just so enticing. Give me a fenced yard and you'll have the best garden in the neighborhood with absolutely no rabbits or squirrels munching on your prized plants. My fosters and I are also working on ignoring other dogs when we walk so I can maintain my chill side regardless of who walks by. I don’t growl or lunge, I just get excited and pull. My litter mates and I were raised in a home with other dogs and even cats, so my fosters are slowly introducing me on walks and at the dog park to see if I still possess that social charisma.

I’m taking to training quite quickly. At my foster home I respond to Sit, Down, No, Ride and Walk. At 11 months, I’m house trained and past most of that puppy craziness. My fosters are leaving me alone in the house for longer and longer periods. I’m up to 2 hours, super chill working on my frozen Kong or my chew bone, no eating their shoes or the couch. If you feel more comfortable, I am fine with my crate, but I’m doing well home alone. At night, just toss my dog bed into your room and I’ll lay down right away, no whining, no jumping up on the bed. Of course, if you WANT my fuzzy, soft company, just whistle and be prepared for 70 pounds landing on you. In the morning, if you’re not up in time for when I really need a walk, I’ll let out a low bark, just enough to let you know we need to get moving. Once we’re home, I’m so famished I could eat a horse. My morning meal is the best!

Any humans, big or small, I’m all-in, totally happy to meet anyone. Just be careful I don’t lean into you so much for pets and cuddles that we both roll over.

Cars are awesome! I’m a total head-sticker. I love the feel of the wind tossing my manly ears around. If you happen to open your car to grab something, watch out, because I’ll probably end up in the shotgun seat with an expectant look on my face. Why are you opening the car door if we’re not going somewhere?

I didn’t think anything could be as awesome as cars. Then I met Peanut Butter. I’ll do anything for peanut butter. Just get out the jar and you’ll have my rapt attention.

I have all my shots, I’m neutered, and have no other issues like heartworms. I follow basic commands, I’m house trained and eager to please my new forever family. My current fosters even cared for my sister, and SHE got a forever home. I’m hoping lighting strikes twice. Get it? Bolt, lightning, twice? What the heck are you waiting for? There’s no wondering with me what kind of dog you’ll have when you get home. My fosters are ready to meet you anytime. Love, Bolt.
