Meet Astara-Shy Sensitive Husky Seeking an Experienced Home
Astara is a 3-year-old husky mix that came into our Mojo's Hope program quite feral. What this means is that she missed the critical stages of social development that has impacted her personality and demeanor. Astara is a fearful pup, not because someone harmed her, but because she missed the time period when she was a puppy to develop appropriate social skills. Through her years with us we have implemented various positive based methods to build her confidence and trust in people. Her home to be must have experience with unsocialized pups and an understanding that this transition process will take time. A potential family will need to meet her and spend time with over several times before any decisions about placement are made. We want Astara and her new people to feel secure in our collaborative decision.
Astara LOVES other dogs, so her home to be MUST have dogs.
Astara is very cautious and building trust with her may take a long time. This will require patience on her adoptive family's part and collaboration with us through the transition process.
Astara is very playful and joyful once she feels comfortable, the key to that success is trust and companionship through other dogs, playtime with people and yummy treats!
Astara has been wonderful around the cats in her foster family. She is gentle and playful.
Astara has been trained on a harness, wrap around leash (custom harness), and a collar for walks and has made great improvements with her daily short walks. We continue to build up her stamina and monitor her stress level and she is enjoying her walks more and more. Therefore a home with a fenced-in yard is required for her needs. Along with a fenced-in yard, she will need to wear her harness and a long line while in the transition process. This will provide her people to be with an easier time luring her inside and interacting with her at a distance when outside.
Astara loves to DIG, so be prepared to work with her on that using only positive based methods.
She is a puppy at heart, so your home must be puppy-proofed!
Astara is a flight-risk and we will guide her family to be to prevent her from having the chance to go missing.
Astara LOVES to play with toys (this started about 6 months ago!).
She LOVES belly rubs and snuggling up by the pups and also her foster mom at night in the bed.
Astara is kennel trained with both a wire kennel and an airplane kennel.
Due to her shy nature, a home without young children is preferred.
Once Astara has bonded with her people and pups, then the process of taking her out on walks can happen. She must feel safe and secure. We will state it again, she is a flight-risk and we do not want her to get loose.
We know there is a loving home that will be willing to open their hearts to our special girl. We understand our requirements are very strict, however, her safety and security are our top priorities! We want her to be safe, happy, and loved.
If you have read our expectations very carefully and feel you have the type of home that will be able to provide Astara with what she needs, then please contact us at email@example.com to set up a time to meet her and begin the introduction process.
