Meet Asher
Asher is very slim and elegant. He was found running the roads in a snow storm in western Michigan.
Fully vetted - rabies, distemper and booster, he was neutered Jan 10 so his stitches are still in. He had 2 wart like growths removed from his chest when neutered- those are healing beautifully. A Chem-10/ pre-surgical panel run, coagulation test normal, thyroid test negative, and he now has a microchip.
He came in mildly heartworm+. His first blood smear was positive with microfilaria due to HW+. He is on a slow kill treatment which can take months to test HW negative. Will be checked again for HW status at 3 months and 6 months.
Because of his HW treatment we have kept his activity level minimal.
He is a quiet, reserved boy. Both Crate and Potty trained.
Very regal with a fantastic coat!
He hasn’t been with us long so he is still a little quirky. We feel he was beaten and possibly shocked by a woman. He prefers men, but likes his foster mom 95% of the time.
Asher does not like anyone hovering over his head, or holding him in an embrace. I think he feels trapped.
He was taken to Dr Pol and he lived him. Because of this we think a home with an older gentleman would be perfect!
Low activity level now, but he hasn’t been given the opportunity to run due to his HW treatment.
NOT food or treat motivated.
NOTE: Asher will require patience and understanding initially. And a house with a man in the house will be preferred. Small children would require caution due to his responses to physical touch and being in his space. Older children or no children preferred. might scare him, or invade his personal space, and would require caution.
Dogs would also need to be tested before placement. He shows dominant behavior and mounting behaviors with another female Doberman in the foster home. An only dog home may be preferred as well.
Given time, Asher will be a wonderful addition to someone’s home. Do you have the patience to help the diamond in the rough?
