Due to Asher’s beginning in life, he is going to take a very patient adopter. Asher has come so far in his foster home and has finally learned how to trust his foster mom and how to “dog” with his foster siblings. However, he is still super uncertain of new people and new situations. He is immediately friendly with new dogs – probably because that’s all he knew for the first three months of his life – but can take some time to warm up to new humans. None of this makes him any less worthy of his forever family!
He is doing great on house training as long as his foster mom keeps him on a schedule and he knows he gets to go outside throughout the day. He LOVES his kennel and very rarely has any accidents in his kennel. He likes to gather his toys and take them to his “den,” so don’t be surprised if you have to periodically empty his kennel of piles and piles of toys. Asher will likely never be the type of dog that likes going to social settings outside of his home (his safe place) and he may never be the type of dog to be super cuddly. He loves playing!! He’ll often sneak a lick on the nose in with his foster mom, but that didn’t happen overnight. It’s been a process and we just want to make sure potential adopters fully understand it will be a process in his new home too. Once you meet Asher, though, you will fall in love!
Asher needs to go to a home with at least one doggy sibling, as he really flourishes having four-legged friends to help build his confidence. He looks to them for reassurance. He is a little socially awkward so he needs a sibling that is also understanding and will love to romp and play with him. He lives with a couple of cats, too, and has had zero interest in them.
Asher is looking for a very special family that is willing to let him be him. He’s a special dog that deserves that special family to spoil him rotten!
