Art's Story

Introducing Art — the masterpiece you didn’t know your home was missing!

Some dogs paint chaos wherever they go… but Art? He specializes in soft colors, cozy vibes, and gentle companionship.

Art is believed to be a 3–5 year old Poodle mix of some sort — maybe Labrador, maybe Australian Shepherd, maybe “adorable scruffy gentleman” is the real answer. His hair is more of the straight doodle variety (no shedding noticed!), and while he’s currently a little underweight, he’s enthusiastically accepting donations in the form of snacks and meals while he works toward his healthy weight of around 50–60 lbs.

If Art were a painting, he’d be one of those peaceful cozy scenes that instantly makes you feel calm.

His favorite masterpiece?
Gazing lovingly into your eyes while getting pets.

His second favorite?
A soft bed — especially the orthopedic one in his foster home, which he has very clearly decided belongs to him now.

Art is a sweet, gentle soul who settled into foster life beautifully after some initial anxiety. He’s learning routines quickly, has done well in his crate, and has been an all-around easy companion to have around the house.

Art also considers himself a “kitchen assistant.”
Cooking dinner? He’d love to supervise.
Making a snack? He’ll be nearby for quality control.

He’s had excellent potty habits so far with no accidents in his foster home, and he gets along well with dogs both big and small. Cats and kids are still unknown at this time.

Leash walking is still a work in progress — mostly because Art’s idea of personal space is “as close to you as physically possible.”

Art is not currently neutered, but will be scheduled soon.

Some dogs are loud splashes of color. Art is more like a comforting watercolor — soft, warm, gentle, and impossible not to love once you spend time with him.

Apply at adoptapal.org/adopt
Located in Cedar Rapids, Iowa
His adoption fee is $500 and includes neuter, microchip, vaccinations, and one month of pet insurance.
