Meet April

April is as sweet as they come! She is 11 years old and her foster mom describes her as loving, happy, very close to her person and a quick learner. If you are looking for a snuggly, velcro and lap IG, April is the girl for you! She is just so easy to love.

April does get along well with other dogs, but can be jealous. She needs someone who is willing to be gentle but consistent with her with correcting jealous behaviors when other dogs approach when she is getting love. After a few weeks in foster, this jealous behavior has stopped after foster mom worked with her. April lived alone for 11 years so she would do fine as an only dog also. What she needs the most is human companionship. She has two IG foster siblings and a large, very gentle and calm foster sister too. She LOVES to lay with them to sunbathe on the patio. Lounging or snooping around the fenced yard is a favorite of hers too. A fenced yard is a MUST for April as well as a home without really young children due to her comfort level.

She LOVES. LOVES. LOVES. WALKS!! She does walk well on a leash. She is not just an around the block girl, but she enjoys her long walks.

She loves to sleep on her blanket and wants to be covered. She sleeps all night when she sleeps in bed with her person. She does NOT do well at night in a crate. She will bark and scratch and paw the crate for most of the night. She needs her person at night. She does has separation anxiety also. She is very tightly bonded to her people. She can be crated for very short periods (foster has worked with her on this) but she does not like the crate. She was not crate trained in her previous home. She would do best being gated in a safe room when you are away from home.

She has done very well with her potty habits in her foster home. She follows the lead of her furry foster siblings going outside every few hours. She does not indicate she has to go out, but rather, foster mom gives her the opportunity to go out every few hours. She needs consistency and frequency.

For all her sweat and endearing qualities, the one thing that may be a challenge? She is a picky eater! Foster mom has discovered some tricks that she will share with adopter. She does love soft food the best.

April does have a history of occasional seizures (about every 3-4 months per owner's report) but is not on meds and we haven't observed yet since she has been in rescue. She has been spayed, vaccinated, heartworm negative and on preventative, microchipped, and just had bloodwork with a dental and 5 extractions. She was missing quite a few teeth as well. She will need yearly dental cleanings to keep her mouth healthy as dental cleanings were not completed previously. She just had an eyelid tumor and chest tumor removed, both benign and no concerns.

Our goal is to find the right match to April's needs as determined by her foster mom and rescue representatives.

Preference given to applications locally here near Lincoln NE.

Please visit us at midwestigrescue.com to learn more about the adoption process and to fill out an application. We do require an adoption fee to help us cover the cost of vetting while they are in our care. This fee varies depending on their age.

Our application process consists of a completed application, vet and two personal reference checks and home visit. We do require that your resident pets be spayed or neutered and have routine veterinary care and check-ups.
