Weight: 20-22# still growing
Apollo was owner surrendered in July. He had zero vetting and was clearly suffering from suspected puppy demodex with secondary skin infections and smelled horrible.
He has now been vaccinated (3 DAPPv, rabies, bord), dewormed, defleaed, heartworm negative and on monthly prevention, microchipped, neutered, enucleation (undeveloped eye), skin scrape and took a 2nd Credelio 8/18 and his hair is finally filling back in. He will need another heartworm test in 6 months. A Fanconi DNA test kit was ordered from Orthopedic Foundation for Animals. Great news, Apollo is not affected by Fanconi Syndrome. He is a carrier of the gene from one of his parents. But it's no big deal because he's neutered and will never be bred to perpetuate it.
The family that he was living with had small children that he was said to be good with albeit I imagine too rough. They also had poultry that he would chase and kill. He had zero manners when I got him. But he's learned to play nicer with the help of an older German Pinscher and two larger miniature pinschers to rough house with and correct him.
He's pretty good on lead and is good in the car. He doesn't like to be crated. But doesn't protest too much other than he will chew up his toys/blankets when bored. He's making progress on his crate training. But he needs a home to continue his house/crate training as he pretty much lived outside and in a warehouse before I got him.
He needs a basenji breed experienced home. Another basenji to rough house with would be ideal. He would be best in an active home where he gets plenty of both mental and physical stimulation.

After the application is processed and approved, a home visit and meet and greet with the dogs will be scheduled. If there are any fencing issues, make sure that repairs are done prior to the home visit. Typically, the adoption is finalized the day after the home visit and meet and greet. Out of area adopters would need to drive/fly in to meet the dogs and adopt.
