Apollo's Story

Did you know we have a dog in the rescue?!

Yup. We do. His name is Apollo and he’s cutie ?

He is a Great Pyrenees with lots and lots and LOTS of love to give! He was raised a family dog around children and inside only. We are currently working on crate training and his only flaw - separation anxiety.

We have gotten him a special crate that is meant to help with anxiety while in the crate. There is potential that he may need medication for his situational anxiety! He does great with routine, in fact he needs routine. It’s when his routine is messed up that he gets anxious and starts barking and if not crated can be destructive. This is why it’s important that he is crate trained!

He is well mannered and is potty trained. He doesn’t counter surf and knows basic commands now that he’s been with us for a few months. He good around cats, dogs, and various farm animals. The only time he isn’t good with other dogs is when he is in the pasture with his foster mom’s sheep… only at that time does he not want her other dogs (border collies that herd the sheep when needed). So he just isn’t put in that situation - EASY FIX! Although that behavior is because that is the job he was bred to do. Protect livestock!

We do believe he would make a fantastic guardian dog with the proper training and introduction to overnights in the field with them. Unfortunately we cannot test that out as neighbors do not care for a barking dog even if its to scare off predators.

He has been neutered, heartworm tested (NEG), cleared of tick borne diseases, microchipped, vaccinated (Rabies, DA2PP, LEPTO, Bordetella), given monthly prevention that protects against fleas/ticks/heartworm/intestinal parasites.

His adoption fee is $300

If interested in adopting Apollo or having further questions you can email us at FosteringFelinesAdoptions@gmail.com

Breed Info: https://www.akc.org/dog-breeds/great-pyrenees/
