Meet AMORA
She was terrified and not doing well at the shelter.
Her time was coming to an end and she needed a savior. A wonderful woman decided to step up for her and therefore saving her life.
She is now ready for her forever home.
Amora's STATS
Approximate age: 1 year
Approximate weight: 68 lbs
Breed (s): American Staffordshire Terrier mix
Spayed or neutered?: yes
Good with:
kids? Unknown, but likely older kids 13+
strangers? Needs slow introductions with new people. She can warm up to them with treats and several meetings.
other dogs? Yes, she loves playing with other dogs, both small and large
cats? Yes, either ignores cats or sniffs and walks away
On leash? Yes, she does well on leash with minimal pulling on walks
Housetrained? Yes, she is perfectly house trained. She has not had a single accident in her foster home.
Crate trained? Yes, she is good in crate up to 8 hrs at her foster home. She may whine a little at first, but will settle down especially with a bone. She did better in the crate when we placed it near our other dogs crate.
Amora’s perfect home would be with adults or older children (13+) who will initially take the time to earn her trust because believe me, it is so worth it! She is a sweetheart who just wants to be loved, but just needs a little extra time and effort in the beginning for her to warm up to a new family. A relatively calm household with not many visitors may be best for this reason. She does well with other dogs and ideally, her perfect home would have other dogs since they help her confidence and she loves to play with them. She is also happy to be relaxing on the couch and will gladly lay down and take a nap. She is good mix of a dog who is active while also knowing how to be a couch potato. Since she mostly ignores cats, they’re okay too!
Amora LOVES rolling in the grass. Likes to play fetch, may or may not bring the ball back
Very snuggly with her people. She is a shadow who follows you around the house and always want to be with you.
Knows sit and we are working on down and touch
Thinks she is a lap dog despite her size
Amora can be shy/timid with new people. She needs someone who will go slow with her and understands it can take several visits with a new person for her to warm up to them. Once you win her trust though, it’s worth it!
Fearful of new situations outside her home. Her foster home is currently working to build her confidence in these situations and she will need someone who will either be content staying at home with her or can continue to work with her outside the home.
Amora is a 1 year old female who came to us from NYC ACC where she was at risk of euthanasia due to being fearful in the overcrowded shelter. Her shelter notes say “This poor, sweet girl. This girl was brought to the shelter as a stray, but one would think beautiful AMORA was dumped by here family and was all alone in the streets not knowing who to turn to or where. She is trembling in her kennel and so incredibly scared. She is not aggressive. When someone comes to visit her and take her out, she continues to tremble with her little tail tucked. But when this new friend opens her door and kneels down, saying softly “want to go for a walk outside sweet girl?” she finds in herself the courage to slowly move forward and walks quickly with them to the play yard. She is soft and gentle, quiet and good. She doesn’t want to be a bother. She wants so much to be loved and comforted. She just needs that quiet, calm, loving space where she can decompress and then warm at here own pace to a new life and a new family who will never, ever abandon her again. We know she is holding her heart close, but we also know that Amora would be all love and cuddles, loyalty and devotion to the family that chooses her to be their friend.” In the short time she’s been in her foster home so far, time and patience have already made a world of a difference from her description in the shelter. She has already started to come out of her shell to show her playful, loving personality. While she does take time to warm up to people, she has a lot of love to give to the right family. She is a dog who will initially be an investment of time and effort to gain her trust, but in the end, it will pay off for her forever family because she truly is an amazing dog.
