About

Coat length
Long
Health
Vaccinations up to date, spayed / neutered, special needs. Alvin has a deformity of his cerebellum that affects his mobility - see the video. There's no way for us to know if it is progressive (cerebellar abiotrophy) or if he was born this way (cerebellar hypoplasia) since we did not have him since birth and there's no test to make that distinction. Anyone who is considering adopting him needs to understand that if he has the progressive form, he would have a shortened lifespan that we cannot predict. Cerebellar hypoplasia would not affect his lifespan.
Good in a home with
Other dogs, cats, children.
Adoption fee
$195.00

Petfinder recommends that you should always take reasonable security steps before making online payments.

PLEASE READ CAREFULLY INCLUDING THE INFO ABOUT ALVIN'S SPECIAL NEEDS
Alvin is an adorable 8-9 month old papillon mix who has special needs. As you can see in the video, Alvin doesn't move like most dogs. He has a problem with his cerebellum which affects his movements with all 4 legs. Despite his special needs, he is happy and such a fun loving guy! He gets along well with everyone he meets but due to his size and condition we are looking for a home without small children- perhaps age 8+ will be ok. He's fine with other dogs and cats too. He is well-behaved, does fine in the crate (has peed in it on long work days), and is playful and fun. He is not a barker but he does scream when he doesn't like something. We are looking for a home that is well-suited for a dog with special needs - not a lot of steps, wood floors are tough for him. He needs a patient, loving, special home that will embrace his differences and understand how wonderful Alvin is despite his special needs. If you are interested in adopting from Recycled Doggies and think your home is the right match for him, please complete an adoption application through our website: www.recycleddoggies.org. THAT IS THE FIRST STEP IN OUR PROCESS. Please do not just show up at an adoption event and expect to adopt a dog that day - we need time to review your application ahead of time, which is why we ask that you submit your application ahead of time so you don't miss out on the dog you are hoping to adopt while you wait for your application to be reviewed. Our adoption fee is $195. All of our dogs are spayed/neutered, up to date on age-appropriate vaccines, dewormed, heartworm tested (if over 9 months of age), and microchipped. We do not adopt outside our area, which we define as two hours drive time from downtown Cincinnati (zip code 45202 - use Google Maps to determine if you are within our area) NO EXCEPTIONS. This is for the safety of our dogs, so that in case an adoption does not work out, we can be sure that we can quickly get our dog back. We do not have a shelter or facility - all of our dogs live in volunteer foster homes. In order to not infringe on any more of the time of our foster families, we introduce our dogs to potential adopters at our weekend adoption events posted on our website - please do not request to meet the dog outside of an adoption event as we are unable to grant the request. If you have additional questions, please email recycleddoggies@gmail.com.
