Meet Aisling

If you can see this post, Ashling is still available for adoption. Please READ THIS ENTIRE DESCRIPTION and complete an adoption application, if you are interested. If you send an inquiry to ask if the dog is still available, it will not be answered. FILL OUT AN APPLICATION. We can do NOTHING without that. No, we cannot tell you if he would be a match for your family without an application.

*/*/* PLEASE NOTE: The first communication you will receive after completing an application will be an email response, which will have instructions on how to proceed. Please check your inbox AND spam folders for the next 48 hours, for this email. We will not begin processing an application without the information requested in that email. */*/*

We are happy to consider applicants from out of state. However, if the applicant is approved, they must be willing to come to our location in Troy, VA, for a meet and greet. If all parties agree that the pup and family are a good fit, they would take the pup home at that time.

'Aisling', which means “a dream “in Gaelic, is a high energy, human-loving sweetheart of a girl. She’s a petite 98-lb 4-years young Dane with a big personality and puppy energy. While the first three years of her life were traumatic, it hasn’t impacted her sunny disposition and big heart. Aisling is very much a Velcro Dane and always prefers to be with her human over any of her canine pals.

The Good:
If she were allowed, she would be touching her human every minute of every day. She loves to cuddle, get scratches under her chin and sit or sleep in full spoon position.

She’s completed an intense eight week training program and her obedience is excellent. She’s a pro at Sit, Down, Heel, Place, Drop It, Stay, Wait and Kennel. She loves to go for rides in the car and lays nicely in the back while we’re driving. She makes a great companion for errand runs, behaves politely in public places and is a delight to walk... always giving a loose leash, even when not in a heel. And she walks on the treadmill like a pro, making her a great indoor workout companion.

She’s goofy and makes me laugh every day with nightly zoomies, the elaborate preparation of her bed before a nap or her shameless requests for belly rubs.

Opportunities to get better:
She currently lives with three other Danes and while she gets along well with all of them, she occasionally challenges the female and often invades their personal space to nudge closer to her human.

Aisling has a moderate case of separation anxiety and will counter surf if given the opportunity, so it is best that she’s crated when alone. She struggles with giving others - dogs and humans a like - personal space, so it’s best she’s not in a home with small children. And she is slow to greet strangers, but with a proper opportunity to sniff, she quickly makes a new friend.

GDU does ask a minimum adoption fee of 300.00. This does not even come close to covering all expenses created by animals while in rescue. We are funded solely by the angels and volunteers willing to donate time and finances. This minimum fee includes DAPP, rabies if age appropriate,, heartworm test and preventative, if age appropriate, and flea and tick treatment, as well as neutering or spaying if the animal is medically sound to undergo surgery. In an attempt to avoid tummy upset from a sudden change of food, the foster family may include a small, transitional bag of the food the dog/puppy has been eating. And if the dog/puppy has grown attached to a special item (like a toy or blanket), they may send that along, as well.

*/*/* Young puppies will receive age-appropriate vaccines, and will be spayed/neutered prior to adoption. Adopters may be required to provide additional puppy boosters and at 16 weeks of age, a rabies vaccine. Future annual vaccines, testing and monthly heartworm preventative are REQUIRED, and will be the financial responsibility of the adopter.
