At the last minute we had been able to find someone to help. A wonderful person in NYC stepped up, but was only able to commit to a short term foster . He has kept Aimee months longer than originally agreed. He has been amazing but her time with him is going to truly run out soon.
Due to her bouncing around, and losing what she thought was going to be her forever home,, Aimee has regressed. Her current foster has been amazing with her, working with Aimee as often as he can. Due to work commitments, he really does not have the time to fully commit and knows this is not fair to Aimee. He loves her and wants what is best.
She is a very smart, loving and playful dog who shows the drive to learn. We have recently brought a trainer in to re-evaluate Aimee. She will be going back tomorrow to work with Aimee, the foster and a friend of RTHRS who has been helping out.
Aimee will need someone who is a strong leader as she can be a bit stubborn and will try to run the show. She is very loving but needs to have structure and boundaries. She is learning to trust humans after a traumatic history, but is generally quick to open up with proper introductions. Aimee is very smart and equally as stubborn. She was great with dogs before, but now we are not able to confirm this. She and her foster doggie brother have not been together, except on some walks. We are not sure if it is their dynamic or the bouncing around has taken it’s toll on her. So at this time, she is dog selective. She will need a meet and greet, proper introduction to any dog(s) living in the home (including two week shut-down and slow introductions for as long as it takes). Has done better with dogs smaller than her (approx. 30 lbs and under) or younger . She was fine with larger dogs, but had a bad experience in a group setting that makes her nervous around larger dogs or a lot of dogs. This can likely be worked on with training and patience.
She has not even had One inquiry for adoption and this is just heartbreaking! We know that her Forever is out there!
Aimee CANNOT go into boarding. This will destroy her spirit. She has been let down so many times. Please give her the chance that she has been waiting for, someone who will Commit to giving her a life of stability, patience and love. Aimee is an incredible dog, who will need work...but it will pay off in the end.
