Meet ADONIS
“He has a champion style strut... and is stunning.”
*****************************************************************
Even with his ears intact, ADONIS is an absolute beauty! This exquisite boy is estimated to be less than a year old, over 61 lbs, and extremely active with his puppy energy. He is incredibly loving and affectionate (even with strangers). He values close human interaction, loves going out for walks, and enjoys attention.
ADONIS is house-trained, and fine in his crate (and as he decompresses he likes having his own space). ADONIS sleeps in his crate, and is also ok with it when home alone. No separation anxiety for this boy, and he is completely fine with standard rain. However there has not been an opportunity yet to test him for any true storm anxiety. This boy is very smart and also food-driven (which makes easier training). ADONIS has already learned SIT, and still requires some basic obedience training as he likes to jump. He could also use some leash training as he a puller and super strong. While he is a good boy, he would do best with an experienced handler. ADONIS has a high prey drive, and we are uncertain where he stands with other dogs, cats or children. There are no medical concerns, and we do recommend regular cleaning of the ears to prevent any issues.
In terms of history, ADONIS came to us after he “choose” his finder and savior. He jumped into her SUV as she was unloading her groceries at home, and refused to get out (until they negotiated a deal that he could stay safe with her). He initially had a lot of facial scarring. We were not able to determine if it was from dog fights or due to human hands, but his fearful reaction from the sound of his finder crushing her water bottle (as her regular habit), was an indication he may have come from an abusive situation. In fact, he was posted on social media in search of his owner, and someone did reach out claiming to be his person and that he had been recently stolen. ADONIS did not recognize or respond to the name that supposedly belonged to him, and when the caller was advised of the evidence of recent abuse, instead of showing concern that their pup could have been harmed, they almost suddenly advised (without further explanation) that he wasn’t their dog. Moving forward in his foster home though, ADONIS is not nearly as sensitive as he was initially. He does cower some at the raise of a hand, and is becoming more neutralized to it everyday. Our guess is that the trauma is short-lived, provided he remain in a stable loving environment. This boy just wants to please and be loved.
Our wish for ADONIS, is to be in a single dog home, ideally with a good sized yard or property. Lots of love, affection, structure and exercise is a MUST for this boy. Someone who is eager to provide him the proper training and enrichment that will allow him to live the best life ever.
