There's nothing quite like puppy energy and silliness...and then they put their beautiful heads quietly on your shoulder breathing their warm baby breath. These very loving and sweet as can be puppies are so pure and vulnerable that it's unbearable to think of them in a high-kill shelter.

Abbey, at just about 6 months old and currently 5 lbs (anticipated to be about 8 - 10 lbs when full grown), was facing the end of her life before it ever really began. Farfel's rescuers are compassionate and loving and couldn't turn their back on this gorgeous girl with the great temperament..they rescued Abbey just in time to spare her life.

Abbey is starting out with great energy...the excellent results of her temperament-testing ended with a transport ticket to Colorado and a new life. She's also incredibly beautiful...with gorgeous dark eyes displaying wisdom far beyond her years.

Life has already had its challenges for our sweet Abbey. She was placed into the Texas home of a nurturing and very loving foster, but after only a few days together, Abbey's foster mom reached out to our rescuer a bit concerned on how Abbey was walking - she was a bit topsy turvy! Her video was immediately sent over to the vet and Abbey's challenge was quickly identified as cerebellar hypoplasia.

Cerebellar hypoplasia is a disease that denotes an inadequate development of the cerebellum, a section of the brainstem largely responsible for modulating motor impulses. Affected dogs can therefore fail to move normally when it comes to maintaining normal balance and coordination. We're very happy to see that Abbey has no idea that she's different...she's an active, happy and very cuddly puppy that is thrilled with her life.

Fortunately, Cerebellar hypoplasia isn't a painful or contagious condition. It doesn't get worse over time but also doesn't improve. Most dogs learn to adapt very well as they age and can live happy and healthy lives. There is a possibility that Abbey may have seizures at some point or a bit of a shorter lifespan...but that information is unknown to us at this time.

Abbey has the potential for a stunning and shining coat. Her hair is currently shelter-tired but once on a regular protocol of care, it will be cottony-soft and shining with good health. Abbey will require a lifelong commitment to periodic sudsy baths, brushing and great nutrition (5 star food and a salmon oil supplement are excellent regimens for general longevity and hair care) to keep her coat healthy, shining and soft as cotton.

Abbey is appropriately playful and inquisitive for her young age. She's also so loving and cuddly...she would be very excited to be a couch or bed dog and snuggle with her favorite people at the end of an active day. She's SO smart and very engaging - very typical of a Pom puppy..with perhaps just a touch of Papillon in the mix for additional cuteness.

We're open to Abbey finding her forever home with an energetic retired couple or individual with the desire to train and enjoy a silly and super-smart puppy. Abbey enjoys her relationships with all humans and dogs...we would prefer, however, to place her in a home with older kids (tail pulling or rough treatment will create an adult dog that's fearful of children). Older kids can be active participants in a training regimen and friendship that's so important in a dog's development. Abbey enjoys her relationships with other dogs as well and would love playing hard and then enjoying the sunshine together on a beautiful day.

Abbey will be up to date on her vetting/vaccinations to be in line with our commitment to adopting out only healthy dogs. We've requested that Abbey be spayed prior to her transport to Colorado. If this doesn't occur, Farfel's is happy to cover all costs for Abbey's spay and microchip after her arrival on transport if one of our rescue vets is used.
