Walter's Story
Walter has recovered from his outdoor adventure. He is visually impaired and still has a slight head tilt, but it doesn't slow him down at all! He does all the things any other cat would do - run, jump, play and climb!

Walter is all about fun, playtime, yummy food and napping in cozy beds. He's affectionate and friendly, but prefers a light touch. We think he feels over-stimulated with too much handling. He likes to chat, explore and enjoy life. Walter is looking for someone who will love him as he is.

Here's his story:
We posted this handsome guy on August 23rd hoping to find an owner. No one contacted us to claim him.

When he first arrived, we thought he might have been hit by a car due to the neurological symptoms, broken leg and not being able to eat. Because he wasn’t able to eat, we took him to an emergency hospital. He was admitted and spent 2 nights in intensive care.

To determine what was causing his symptoms and have a treatment plan to bring him back to health; they needed to do several tests. CT scan, CBC/Chem bloodwork, a Toxo/Corona/Crypto titer test, and a Urinalysis. He also needed a feeding tube. They discovered the severe middle ear infection and determined that the metal BB probably caused the leg fracture.

Walter came back to the shelter in a few days eating well with a plan. After 4 weeks of medication and 6 weeks of crate rest, he is finally ready to be adopted!

Walter is about 3 years old and tested negative for FIV and FeLV. He is micro-chipped.

Our adoption fee ($75 for cats 1 year and over or $100 for kittens) includes a free vet visit with one of our participating vets.

All of our cats have been spayed or neutered, tested for Feline Leukemia and FIV, vaccinated for rabies and distemper and have been treated, if necessary, for fleas and parasites.

We do adoptions by appointment only. We recommend filling out an adoption application first; then you can be pre-approved before your visit. This way if you find a cat/kitten that you connect with, you can take them home the same day.
Applications can be found here: http://schuylerhumane.org/cat-adoption/

We have Open Hours on Mondays and Fridays from 10am – 1pm, Saturdays from 10am - 4pm or Sundays from 2 to 5 pm. People can stop by without an appointment. Please note we do not do same day adoptions.

Visit us online at www.schuylerhumane.org for additional information, an adoption application, to see more adoptable dogs and cats or for directions to our shelter.
