URGENT*Missy*'s Story
URGENT UPDATE!! 06/18/08: URGENT! We need to find a new foster or permanent home for Missy ASAP. Her foster mom can no longer keep Missy and Missy is boarding in a cage at the vet's office. Missy has become very affectionate with her foster mom, though she still doesn't want to be picked up. Unfortunately, she is still being terrorized by the other household cats and having to live in one small room. Missy will do fine best as an indoor kitty in a safe and quiet setting, though wherever she lives we are sure she'd like to be loved by at least one special human. She has always been fed and cared for by people, so she probably is not a candidate for someone looking for a mouser or outdoor barn cat. Please open your heart to this sweet and playful little girl and we're sure she'll open her heart to you. As you can read, Missy has a long history and is a rescue that deserves a break in life. All of her vet work has been updated and she needs to find a home soon. Please e-mail spcagainesville@hotmail.com for an application to help Missy if you have it in your heart to adopt a TRUE rescue animal.
UPDATE 11/12/07: Missy's foster home now has a 20 lb dog and Missy had no fear at all and even "talked to" and sniffed noses with the newcomer, so she's fine to go to a home with an easygoing small dog. NO rough stuff will be tolerated by the dog though and Missy has given the new dog a smack on the rump when she attempted to take over her bed. Missy is still being bullied by the male cat and one of the females in her foster home and we'd really like to find her a new home without other cats. Poor Missy has to be locked up in one room all the time to keep her safe. Do you have a place in your home and heart for this beautiful little girl? Write spcagainesville@hotmail.com for an adoption application and to arrange to meet this sweet fluffy princess.
UPDATE 11/09/07: This beautiful 3 year old girl is listed as special needs because she is initially shy, as you would be if you had a BB bullet removed from your back. Missy has been in either cages or foster care for nearly a year now. Because she has adapted to indoor living, we would prefer an indoor-only home for her. Missy and her foster mom have a very close bond but the resident cats in the house do not like Missy and chase and harass her. The only options are letting them dominate Missy or keeping her locked in a room by herself where she gets very lonely. Missy likes to jump on her foster mom's bed in the morning and bask in the sun. She would sleep there at night too but the resident cats run her off. Missy's ideal home would be with a woman who has time to dote on her. She is so meant to be a princess kitty, pampered with Fancy Feast, cozy cat beds, and given time to snuggle, preferably in her human's bed each night. She doesn't tolerate being picked up but will rub on you and let you stroke her silky fur. She needs her nails trimmed by a professional, but she is very good about using scratching posts and the cardboard scratchers. Missy is very sweet to her foster mom and stands on her hind legs and talks when she sees a bowl of wet food is on the way. She is very silky soft to the touch and sleeps on her back with one hind paw in the air when she is feeling safe. Missy loves her fleece cat bed and spends most of the day lounging in it, watching the household's activities through the open door. Can you provide this sweet petite a home where she'll feel safe to explore?
UPDATE 7/25/07: Missy is really coming out of her shell at her foster home. She is much more attuned to people than the other cats and she'd be fine as an only cat. Her foster mom has found Missy's true passion in life-wet food! There doesn't seem to be a brand or flavor she doesn't like and she makes the cutest little meows when she's asking for more and more...yet she keeps her petite figure. Lucky Missy! If you are worried about a lot of shedding or grooming issues with this medium-haired girl, please know that Missy stays nice and silky, appears tangle-free and doesn't leave much hair around the house.
UPDATE 6/26/07: Missy is a fantastic companion kitty. She is very sweet and affectionate and loves to be petted, especially when she is eating; she purrs up a storm. Missy was once an outdoor cat, but has learned to adjust to indoor life and will be happy to remain indoors in a quiet adult household. Are you looking for a fluffy princess to pamper?
UPDATE 6/11/07:Poor Missy has now lived in cages and a bathroom for 6 months. She doesn't want to be with the other cats in her foster home and has chosen to stay in the bathroom. Missy didn't like being kept caged at PetsMart or the vet clinic and we don't have any foster homes without pets or a spare room just for her. Can you help this "petite sweet"?
UPDATE 1/8/07: Missy has become very depressed and upset by being at PetsMart. She was used to being an outdoor kitty and we think that time in a cage with no day light has made her very unhappy, so she is moving to one of our hospital locations where she can have a larger condo near a window and glass door. Hopefully, Missy will be happier there. She needs to find a home where she can once again have a normal life free of cages.
POSTED 12/5/06: Missy is a sweet tiny 8 lb long haired all black spayed female. She is about 2 years old and was just turned over to rescue today. When curled up sleeping she looks like a little ball of fur. Her owners are moving and feel they cannot take her with them. She is used to being an outdoor cat but would do ok indoors too. She has tested negative for Felv and FIV, vaccinated, spayed, and treated for fleas. She is ready for her new home as soon as you come and fall in love. Missy is a beautiful girl with a beautiful personality to match. Please e-mail spcagainesville@hotmail.com for an application or speak to Robin at PetsMart on Archer Road in Gainesville on Sat or Sun each weekend from 11am-5pm.
