Health
Vaccinations up to date, spayed / neutered, special needs. Uncle Buck is FIV+. Feline Immunodeficiency Virus is a virus that may, over time, depress the immune system. The good news is that cats who test positive for FIV can live long, healthy lives with the proper care - regular vet checkups, and a balanced diet. . The virus itself is not what harms the cat, it is secondary diseases that they catch due to the immune system being compromised. The virus is species specific - it can only be passed to cats, not dogs or humans. It also is not passed communicably through shared water and food or litter boxes. It is passed through deep bite wounds, so it it important to keep FIV+ cats indoors and away from any cats that pick fights. . It is a common misconception that FIV+ cats have to be completely separated from other cats, They are able to live among negative cats if they all get along and are not likely to fight. They can also live with other FIV cats. .
Good in a home with
Other cats, dogs, children.

Meet Uncle Buck

Uncle Buck is one of the most relaxed, laid back cats we have met. He is great with other animals and people of all ages! He is very social, and loves to curl up on your lap and snuggle for as long as you will allow. Unfortunately, he is FIV+ and has to be separated from the rest of our cat population to protect his health. This means he does not get the socialization he so desperately desires. He is becoming depressed the longer remains isolated at the shelter, we need to find this sweet boy a home. UPDATE: Uncle Buck now has a room mate, Bronson, another FIV+ cat who is also up for adoption. We are so glad he has a friend to keep him company, but it's still nothing compared to the company of a family. These boys have become bonded in their short time together, we would love for them to be adopted as a pair!

We believe Buck may have been significantly abused before he was found and taken in. His jaw is crooked (kicked? hit by a car?), he had wounds across his face when he arrived, and he has a lump in his left shoulder - perfectly round, solid, and foreign, we believe is it a bb pellet or buck shot that became embedded in his skin. Despite all this, Uncle Buck remains a sweet, affectionate, snuggly boy who instantly purrs and kneads your arm the moment you pick him up.

Uncle Buck is FeLV negative but is *FIV positive*, up-to-date on vaccines, dewormed, litter trained and neutered. If you’re interested in adopting sweet Buck please contact Michelle at 570-759-0920 or myefko@erizon.net.
