Meet Toby Tom

Hello my name is Toby! I used to go by Toby Tom but thank goodness that time is over!
Other cats and people would look at me and say “There goes the king of front street”. But I sure didn’t feel like a king. I spent my days dodging cars and trying to steal food from people. I spent my nights fighting other kitties and trying to find a safe spot to sleep.
I really hated the fighting part, I don’t like fighting with other cats, I was so lonely. Sometimes I would find a friend to spend some time with and it would be nice for a little while! But each time my friend would have kittens, I was always so excited!
But as soon as the kittens would arrive my new friend would chase me off!! Hissing and spitting. She no longer wanted to be my friend. So again I would find myself alone. This went on for a long time! I have seen at least two winter seasons.

Then one day it all changed!! I found a new friend! I started calling to her! But this friend was inside a house. A people's house!! She would sit in the window and meow at me! But she didn’t smell like other house cats. She smelled like a wild cat like me!!
She even had kittens! I was shocked! I thought all cat’s who lived with people were house cats! I came everyday and visited my new friend through the window. One day she told me her story. She had spent time on the streets and was lonely too! Then these nice humans took her and her babies inside and gave them somewhere nice to grow up! She also told me that once her kittens were raised she wouldn’t have to be a mom anymore! You see she had her kitten hood robbed from her! She became a mom at only 8 months old! She was looking forward to going someplace called a “forever home”.

I wasn’t sure what a forever home was but I was excited to find out! It sounded magical! She said the only scary part was the box. She said I had to be brave and go into the box if I wanted a chance at finding my forever home. So I sat down on the porch and waited. Sure enough the humans came outside with the “box”. I pulled myself up to my full 16inchs and bravely walked into the box!! I was done being cold and lonely!

I will admit the box was scary!! But I didn’t have to be in it very long. The humans soon took me out of the box. They petted me and told me I was handsome. I found myself getting sleepy… I drifted off to sleep purring…. When I woke up I realized none of my sore spots were hurting anymore!! I started looking around and I found I was inside the human's house!! The magical box worked and it did get me inside!
My new friend jumped off her perch and came over to me. She sat down, her tail twitching and her eyes twinkling. “I am headed back into the box and am going to my forever home today” she purred. I groggily lifted my head “you're leaving?” I meowed.
She tilted her head and said “ It’s time for me to go to my forever home. Don’t worry you will get to go to your forever home soon too. But in the meantime will you look after my kittens?” I was shocked! She didn’t hiss at me or tell me to get away from her kittens?! She wanted me to look after them?! “I would be honored” I meowed. She leaned in and touched my nose “thank you” she meowed. She then turned and walked back into the box. The humans carried her out of the room.

“I am so happy my first real friend found her forever home. I took care of her kittens like she asked. In fact I have helped take care of many kittens! I am still waiting patiently for my forever home. But in the meantime helping other kitties who are scared is wonderful. If you think I would make a good addition to your family please let the humans know. I am very excited to find my forever home”
