Meet Summer

Summer is a vivacious, curious, fun-loving, playful domestic shorthair who grew up in a feral colony outside. She was fixed in a spay/neuter program, and her left ear tip was clipped to signal her status should animal control interfere with the colony. The colony caregiver noticed that she had a wound on her right forehead when she was spayed; a similar wound was noticed a year later, and Summer was brought into the shelter to help her heal. There, Summer got very nervous for the first two days, but then warmed up to people and displayed her joyous and busy nature. Due to space shortage, Summer was transferred to our rescue, and we noticed that Summer self-inflicts the wound on her forehead whenever she is nervous and scared, by rubbing her eye brow onto some edge until the skin is raw. Once her stress is reduced, the wound heals, thus we view her rubbing as direct indicator for her stress level whenever changes occur in her life as she knows it. Being aware of the stress-and-rubbing behavior will allow her new people to manage her health perfectly well.

Summer is up to date on her vaccines and, except for her stress behavior, appears completely healthy. Her people must give her a few days to adapt to any significant changes such as moving or exposure to another pet/children. Once she has settled in, she is a busy-busy charming love bundle of joy! We believe she will not be able to tolerate dogs, and likely only a calm/senior cat or two with careful introductions.

If you are serious about adopting her, please go to www.va-persianrescue.org, where you will find the questions for the adoption application; to get pre-approved, please copy/paste and email the completed questionnaire to us. On the website you will also find a detailed description of the adoption process, plus you can pre-read the adoption contract which we will ask you to sign on the day your kitty goes home with you.

Please note that we are an all-volunteer rescue where kitties are nursed back to health and fostered in private homes. Our foster parents are extremely dedicated but do have lives that include demanding work, busy schedules, and families. You will need to make an appointment with the foster family that suits both your and their schedules. We deeply care about these gentle souls and their new homes, please bear with us if things do not go as quickly as you wish, we promise to do our very best!
