What is Martin County Humane Society’s adoption process?

Adoptions are done by appointment only. An application needs to be filled out first at our website, www.humanesocietyofmartincounty.org. Submitting an inquiry from Petfinder about a specific animal is not an application to adopt. We receive dozens of those a week and there is no time to respond to all of them. An adoption application is required directly from our website, not Petfinder. We are volunteer only at our shelter so we do the best we can to respond to applications in a timely fashion. Adoption fees include vaccinations & spay/neuter, flea/tick treatment, worm treatment and ear mite treatment in cats and heartworm testing, Lyme disease & e.canis testing on dogs 7 months and older. It also includes microchips for dogs. Adoption fees for dogs 6 months and older and over 25 pounds is $100; puppies under six months and dogs 25 pounds and under are $150. Puppies not old enough for spay/neuter require a $75 deposit on top of the adoption to be returned to the adopter once the puppy is fixed. Kittens who are not yet old enough for spay/neuter are $75 (fee includes cost of spay/neuter at one of our vets in Loogootee, Bloomington or Indianapolis). Kittens and cats already spayed/neutered are $45.
