Socrates (The Cat)'s Story
Aloha and hello!

As the great philosopher Socrates once said, "The only true wisdom is in knowing you know nothing." Similarly, Socrates the cat has a way of opening hearts, sparking critical thinking, and leaving a profound impact on your life—if you let him!

Meet Socrates the cat, a resilient survivor of Hawaii's streets. Despite his tough beginnings, he’s retained a loving and noble spirit. After years of fending for himself, he’s now ready for a forever home where he can enjoy love, comfort, and his own version of the Socratic method: asking for pets and treats, and receiving them in return!

Socrates came from a cat colony and struggled with severe mouth inflammation, making it hard for him to eat. Diagnosed with stomatitis and FIV, his best treatment was the removal of all his teeth, as his immune system was attacking them. While this may seem extreme, it’s the most effective way to provide him long-term comfort and reduce the risk of spreading FIV, which is transmitted through bites.

Despite his challenges, Socrates is a gentle soul with no mean streak. Even without teeth, he’s unlikely to bite anyone, human or cat. Thankfully, he’s doing well and thriving, ready to bring his unique charm to a loving home.

You might be wondering about FIV, and while it sounds intimidating, it’s not as bad as it seems. FIV is an autoimmune disease that weakens the immune system, leaving cats more vulnerable to infections. Though there’s no cure, studies show that cats with FIV often live normal lifespans, provided they don’t also have feline leukemia virus (FeLV), which Socrates does not have. To keep him healthy, it’s important to limit his exposure to illnesses and ensure he gets regular vet care, especially if he shows signs like not eating, sneezing, or coughing. FIV spreads through bite wounds or blood-to-blood contact between cats, but it cannot be transmitted to humans or other animals.

The good news is that Socrates is the least aggressive cat you’ll ever meet—he doesn’t hiss, bite, or growl. Casual contact like sharing water bowls or grooming isn’t an effective way to spread FIV. He could live with another friendly cat, although he might thrive best as an only cat, or with another FIV-positive feline or even friendly dogs.

Socrates is a tough little survivor who may look a bit scruffy, but he has a heart of gold. He craves affection, melts into pets, and purrs as if making up for lost time. He’s also great with dogs, making him a fantastic addition to a multi-pet household.

After years of surviving on his own, Socrates deserves a cozy lap, a soft bed, and someone to love him for the sweet and affectionate cat he truly is.

Socrates is litterbox trained, neutered, vaccinated for Rabies, FVRCP, FeLV, and microchipped. He’s FeLV-negative, which is great news. All he needs now is you!

Will you be the one to give Socrates the second chance he's been waiting for?

Socrates is litterbox trained, neutered, vaccinated for Rabies, FVRCP, FeLV, and microchipped. As a reminder he is FeLV negative, so that is great news. All he needs now is you and your family to take me home!

If you're ready to make a real difference in a life and have yours transformed by the purest love on earth, give us a call or send us an email! As Winnie the Pooh wisely said, "Sometimes the smallest things take the most room in your heart."
