Smore was originally rescued as a kitten in Waterloo, Iowa by Waverly Pet Rescue back in August 2013. We fully vetted her and she was adopted in November 2013. Her owner can no longer keep her because their son has breathing issues and cats bother him. We took her back in August 2020. Smore is up to date on shots, tested FeLV / FIV negative, and spayed.

Smore is now about 9-3/4 years old as of January 2023. Losing her home was really hard on her. She was very upset. She hid for 2 weeks and hissed at me for almost 3 weeks. Then one day when I went in her room to feed her, she decided I was ok and stopped hissing. She now seeks me out for attention and to be petted. She is quite sweet and very beautiful. She is not a fan of being picked up or held so a home with no young children would be best. She has not been around dogs. She lived with other cats so it seems like she would do well with other cats if introduced properly and given time to settle in.

Smore will need to be set up in one room alone in a new home. Make sure she eats, drinks, and use her litter box every day but basically let her be while she adjusts to you and your home. Once she bonds with you and is friendly, then you can let her out in the rest of the house. She will also hide at first, this is normal.

Smore has a brother name Cowboy also back in rescue if anyone is interested in adopting both of them. It is not required. They both would do ok each in their own home.

Smore's adoption fee is $95.00.

WE ARE A NO-KILL 501-C-3 NON-PROFIT RESCUE. All donations are tax deductible. We do not have a shelter. All pets live in foster homes. We only adopt to indoor homes. To see an animal, you must fill out an application first and then once approved, we can set up for you to meet the animal you are interested in. We do background checks on all applicants. If you have assault, domestic abuse, or drug charges please do not apply. If you have questions, please send an email to waverlypetrescue@mchsi.com

All animals see a vet for shots and normal exams. If they appear healthy and there are no obvious health concerns, then extensive testing is not done. This is normal procedure for pet rescues and shelters.
Waverly Pet Rescue puts a lot of money into medical care for each dog and cat we take in. $250 is the average cost for basic care. This does not include if the animal had an injury, required extra flea / ear mite treatments, or needed extra days at the vet office.
