Meet Slinky

Slinky is a big, friendly orange-and-white boy, about one-two years old, who was rescued as an abandoned stray after the person who meant the world to moved away and left him outside to fend for himself. Despite this betrayal, he is very friendly and responds to petting with a warm purr.

Slinky doesn't know it, but he's an example of effective modern veterinary science-- and a dedicated foster mom. Soon after he was first rescued, he was diagnosed with FIP (feline infectious peritonitis), a condition that was fatal to most cats a mere few years ago. Thanks to a new antiviral treatment, many cats with FIP now overcome this condition and go on to live healthy lives. Slinky is such a cat. After his treatment, his blood work came back normal and he was given a clean bill of health. (You can read more about the successful treatment of FIP here: https://icatcare.org/advice/feline-infectious-peritonitis-fip/)

Slinky would do best in an interactive home where he will not be left unaccompanied for long periods of time. He was briefly fostered with a kitten with whom he played the role of a doting uncle, but he does not do well with adult cats. We have not observed him with dogs or kids, but he seems likely to be able to do well with kids who know how to treat cats respectfully. His fur and larger-than-average sizes suggest he is part Maine coon. Slinky's personality suggests that he is an easy cat who would probably be suitable for a first-time adopter.

Slinky has been:
- neutered
- given rabies and distempers
- tested negative for FeLV and FIV
- treated for worms and fleas

His adopter will receive his medical records. There is a simple adoption process and an adoption fee so we can continue to help cats in need. He's being fostered in Lynnfield.

Cats can live up to 20 years, so give careful thought to the changes that are likely to occur in your life during that time. If you can and will commit to him and provide a safe, loving home for life, then respond to RoyCBarrows@gmail.com. Please include your phone number for a faster response and say a little about yourself and the home you would provide for him as we try to match people with the right cats.
