Meet Skunk

Well, hiya! Skunk's the name. I also go by:

- "Skunky"
- "Skunkers"
- "Skunk-a-muffin"
- Whatever other weird names fly out of foster mom's mouth on a whim.

Alright, let me tell you a little story called "How I Was Trapped As a Kitten And Learned To Not Hate People." It's a pretty good one. I'm biased, though.

I was born in a cat colony in Corvallis. I *THINK* my mom and dad were cats, but one of them could have been a skunk (which would explain the white stripe on my back). Foster mom says she's trapped three skunks at that colony in the last couple of months, so it's not a totally crazy theory. Anyways, so I was trapped. I don't really like to talk about it (it's kind of embarrassing). Let's just say that I like wet food, enough to crawl into a metal cage thing. Sue me.

Eventually my little trapped self made my way to foster mom so she could "socialize me". Ha. Good luck with that.

Seriously, though. I put up a good fight. Not literally, of course--I'm a nice guy, I would never! But it sure was fun to torment foster mom and foster dad. They walk in the room? I'd yowl at them. They pet my head? I'd look like I wanted to die. It was a pretty sweet gig. Until one day, I overheard foster mom and foster dad discussing my future...

"I just don't know if Skunk is ever going to come around," foster mom said. "Maybe we should release him back into his colony."

...what. This was not part of the plan. If they put me back...who was going to hand feed me copious amounts of wet food? I couldn't let that happen. So, one day, I purred a little bit. Man, they were so excited about it. It was both embarrassing (for them) and a tad cute. I decided to start purring some more. Maybe an elevator butt or two. In the blink of an eye, I was a normal kitten...scratch that, an AMAZING kitten!

It all worked out, I think. Every day is a blast now. I LOVE being able to play and cuddle with the other cats and kittens I live with. If it's cold out, I'll snuggle up with the dogs to keep toasty warm. I love all toys, but my favorite toys are actually stuffed dog toys. It's fun to wrestle and kick them. Plus, it gives my foster siblings a nice break from me wrestling and kicking them. Oh! I also love those string toys with a feather on the end of it. I'll jump and fly after them until I'm so tired that I'm panting! Not because I'm out of shape...I just worked really hard to catch it...

Life is pretty great. Oh, you know what? It's time for me to beg foster mom for snuggles by rubbing my face all over her hands. Thanks for reading!

What foster mom has to say about me: "Skunk is the BEST! If we hadn't just adopted a different foster kitten, we 100% would have foster failed him. He is just awesome. I've never met a quirkier, funnier kitten:

- He sploots constantly
- He announces when he's going to go to the bathroom by trilling loudly (although he's quiet when he actually does the deed!)
- He has this great "paint me like one of your french girls" poses that he strikes all the time
- He will carry around stuffed animals in his mouth that are almost his size
- He meows/trills at me when I say "Skunky!"

And that's just all the stuff I can think of off the top of my head. He's truly great. He's a purr machine, and loves to sleep on the bed with us. Sometimes he still flinches when I reach to scritch his head, but I think that's just a bad habit from back when he was feral. He always wants to be pet and loved on. His future family is going to absolutely fall in love with him, just like we did."

Skunk's adoption fee is $150, which helps our rescue cover the cost of his neuter, FeLV/FIV test (he is negative), microchip, vaccinations, dewormings, and flea treatment. Please go to https://orphanpawsproject.wixsite.com/mysite/adoption-application to apply to adopt this wonderful guy!
