Meet SKITTLES

Skittles: I am a sweet girl and will lean into pets, particularly on on the side of my face. I will warm up to people with slow introduction, and I do well with vet handling. I am overweight. Since excess weight can cause or exacerbate other health conditions and can negatively affect comfort and mobility, it is recommended that my adopter establishes a relationship with a primary care veterinarian to create a weight loss plan. I have evidence of tooth resorption. This is a painful condition that causes teeth to be destroyed by the body. Teeth affected by this condition were recently removed during a dental procedure here at the shelter. However, cats who have tooth resorption will often have additional teeth affected in the future. We recommend establishing care with a primary care veterinarian to monitor dental health. It is recommended that my adopter starts me in my own space, ideally a spare bathroom or small bedroom. I should have a secure hiding space that is easily accessed by my adopter (a covered large dog crate is a fantastic option, or a cat igloo), options to climb vertically, and easy access to food, water, and a litter box. I should not be approached, pet, or picked up when I am hiding or showing fearful body language like curling up into a tight, tense ball, flattening my ears backward or to the sides, hissing, growling, swatting, etc. Ideally, with enough time to myself, I will begin to relax and move around more freely while my adopter is visiting me in my room. Once I am consistently moving around comfortably, with relaxed body language, I am ready to start exploring other parts of the house. COMPATIBILITY: Dogs: Potentially - no history Cats: Potentially - no history Kids: Potentially, no history The shelter is open Tuesday through Sunday from noon - 4:30 pm, with no appointment needed to meet available cats.
