Meet Sir Kelkels
Kelly - MALE - DOB- 7/2022
Sir Kelkels came to us from Arkansas at the end on March, upon arrival this is what we observed.......
-Extremely thin
-Had a difficult time breathing
-Always seemed exhausted
-Vomited daily
-Moderate to severe fecal incontinence
-He would try to eat food, but couldn’t seem to digest it properly
-Oh…. And he couldn’t lift his tail up..... Time for some X-Rays!
THIS POOR GUY had a massive diaphragmatic hernia!!!! His intestines were up by his esophagus, his lungs were displaced into a section of his abdominal cavity, and his liver was swollen from the stress of everything.
In April of 2023, Kelly underwent surgery to put his organs back into their proper places, and his diaphragm was stretched and repaired to prevent future organ displacement. Now, this awesome dude is ready to find his furever home!
We have no idea what happened to Kelly. These types of injuries are usually the result of blunt force trauma (hit by a vehicle, larger animal/dog attack, or accidental/intentional human involvement).
Look at him!! He is spectacular! He can run and play without having to lay down and try to catch his breath after 30 seconds. He can eat and drink without vomiting/gagging. He is gaining weight and muscle mass like a normal cat should!
Since his surgery, Sir Kels-a-lot has much better control of his bowels. He has never had an issue with bladder control. And while Kelly’s tail is still intact, it’s kind of just there for decoration, a conversation starter if you will. His tail literally does nothing except drag behind him
HOWEVER, we want to be as transparent as possible with you….. Kelly may never have full control of his bowels. But it is far far far too early in his recovery process to say for certain. He is spot on perfect with urinating in the litter box. But sometimes he will be zooming around, or sleeping really soundly, and drop a poo without realizing it. We are wanting to get Mr. K into a kitty chiropractor soon, and we are hopeful that this will further his healing process. (PSA- He CAN be adopted during this time, we would work with you, the adopter, to ensure that he gets the treatment that he needs.)
For the first time in his life, Kelly is getting the chance to be the young cat that he always wanted to be!!! He is FULL of energy now, he is talkative, he loves playing with his cat friends and dog friends and human friends and those curtain rods are just the BEST!
From a behavior standpoint, Kelly is the most purrrrfect cat for anyone. However, Kelly might never fully regain control of his poo……. So please take that into consideration before applying to adopt this amazing boy!
Disclaimer- Mr. K is not going to be the right cat for everyone, however he will be the BEST cat for the right person! We cannot guarantee that he will regain full control of his bowels (poo dropping during zoomies), but we are hopeful that chiropractic care will help. If it doesn't help, at least we know we tried. If you have interest in Sir K, please visit our website www.nalarescue.org and complete an adoption application. We will be by your side through this journey of unknowns, and we will be as supportive as we possibly can for all of you. Thank you for considering this Fabulous Feline!
