Meet Shaggy

Meet Shaggy, an almost 1.5-year-old, 11.5-pound, male, Domestic short-haired grey and white Tabby. He was born around 6-15-20. He recently became a Misfit (again) due to his adoptive parent’s fixed income limitations (he needs frequent dental cleanings - see more below.) He is neutered, up to date on all vaccinations, and micro-chipped. He was tested Negative for FIV.

Shaggy originally became a misfit due to having Herpes and Calicivirus as a young kitten. Neither are transmittable to humans, but Herpes can be transmitted to other cats. Calicivirus is an important cause of upper respiratory infections and oral disease in cats. Some cats will go on to develop Stomatitis, which is where the body mounts an immune system response that causes tartar and plaque to over-develop on the teeth along with what looks like gingivitis. Shaggy was one of the “lucky” ones to develop this condition. Because of this, he will need dental cleanings twice a year. Shaggy also has a fused 3RD eyelid in his left eye, which gives him a “lazy eye’’ look. It doesn’t seem to bother him any, but he does need to have his inner eyes wiped with a wet cloth 1-2 times a day.

He is good with other cats and small dogs. He is ok with finding a warm bed to lie on, but he also has no problem tussling with the other animals in his foster home. He has been known to start a bit of mischief with the other pets. He has not been around children.

Shaggy is a pretty chill guy, unless the food bowl goes empty then he’s going to let you know about it. He will come up to you and bump or pat you with a paw when he wants attention. He loves little stuffed mice toys that he can fling in the air and chase after.
