Meet Scotty

Scotty is a former stray who has discovered the joys of life on a couch. You can tell he had a tough life - he has two cauliflower ears, like an old fighter - and he came to us with wounds, scars, and missing fur. With rest, good food, and love, he now has a thick, healthy coat and has turned out to be a calm, lovable, cuddly moosh who loves to be near people and loves scritches and naptime.

Scotty has tested positive for Feline Leukemia (FeLV). As an FeLV cat, he needs to either be an only cat or in a home with another FeLV cat. The disease is not transmittable to other species, but is spread cat-to-cat via saliva, usually through mutual grooming.

There are no medications for FeLV, but his forever home needs to be aware that he is extra-susceptible to illness. Annual veterinary check-ups are a *must*, and if he shows signs of sickness, he needs to get to a vet ASAP as he will take longer to kick an illness.

If you adopt Scotty, NTCR will pay for his medical needs related to FeLV for the remainder of his life at one of our vet's offices. If you would like to be his forever foster, NTCR will pay for *all* of his vetting for the remainder of his life at one of our vet offices.

People hesitate to adopt FeLV cats because they may not live 15-20 years, but there's no way of knowing how long Scotty's lifespan will be. He is young and healthy, and with a clean environment, loving home, good food, and regular veterinary check-ups, he could live many more happy, healthy years. Some FeLV cats have lived to be 16 and 21 years old. If you would like to be his forever home, please contact NTCR and they will put you in touch with his foster mom. Please contact NTCR AT 214.454.9395 should you have any concerns or questions. Please note: We appreciate all interest in our cats and kittens, but we are an all volunteer organization. Please be patient with regard to a call back. Should you need to surrender the cat you adopted from NTCR , contact us at ntcr@northtexascatrescue.com.
