Meet Reggie

My name is Reggie, and I have had a YEAR!!!!!!

Chapter One- “Daddy Issues”

I was born and raised in Tennessee, born about a year ago now. I never knew my father, my mother left when I was still a baby. I spent the majority of my childhood running the streets and running from the law.

Because I have extra toes, I excelled in hand to hand combat. I was a young, but I was respected in the alleyways.

Chapter Two- “Tingly”

January 30th, 2023… I woke up around noon, it was a sunny day, and I started to make my way to the dumpster behind the neighborhood grocery store. My tail was extra poofy that day, my whiskers were extra tingly, and all 24 of my toes were strong and sharp. But I couldn't shake the feeling that something felt different. The sweet sweet stench of yesterday's microwavable deli counter special of chicken fried chicken kept me focused on the prize…….. Dumpster Dinner.

Chapter Three - "Run"

As I approached the Buffet, others who were already in line and ready to feast….. they started to scurry away!!! There was more than enough food for all of us, I hollered for them to come back and share in this charcuterie board of expired meats and cheeses, but they left without a trail.

Chapter Four - "Numb"

As I began to devour the first, second, and third layers of an Italian Sub, I heard a Loud Explosion. My ears were ringing. And suddenly I cannot feel my legs……. I CAN'T FEEL MY LEGS!!!!!!!

Chapter Five - “Silence”

BOOM!!! Shotgun pellets have impaled me. My Left rear leg is shattered, and my right rear leg feels like painful pins and needles. I'm screaming, but no sounds are coming out of my mouth.

Chapter Six - “This Doesn’t Sound Good”

Unfamiliar voices awake me. I’m still drifting in and out of consciousness, but I hear the words “amputate his leg, it’s the only chance he has!”

Chapter Seven - “New Normal”

Many weeks have passed since the Dinner Dumpster incident, most of them are a blur at best. I have accepted the fact that I have two good legs, one weird leg, and one phantom leg. I still have my health. I have made friends along the way. I am learning to love again. And I still have more toes than you.
