Poppy has been a stray in Waverly, Iowa, in the NW part of Waverly by Pizza Ranch for at least the last 2 years. A kind man felt bad for her so set up an outdoor shelter and fed her for 2 years in his back yard. He finally decided she deserved a better life. So Poppy is now a Waverly Pet Rescue kitty. We got her shots, dewormed, flea preventative, tested FeLV / FIV negative, and spayed. She also had a dental done and cleaned her teeth and pulled some really bad ones. She already had several teeth missing also.

Poppy is about 6-years-old as of May 2021. Over the last 2 years, she had several litters of kittens on the streets. Most died. Some are still roaming the neighborhood as feral cats. This summer we are going to work on trapping, vetting them, and putting them on a nice farm. Here is our online fundraiser if you would like to help with that:

Poppy is as sweet as can be. a little shy and scared at first in new situations, but warms up quickly once she gets to know you. She likes to be petted. She likes to look out the window. She seems so happy and content being in her foster home with food, a bed, and love. She has not been around other cats yet so will update her profile once she meets some of the other foster cats.

Poppy does have a daughter named, Ivy, that we have taken in. Ivy is about a year old and sweet and friendly also. Would be wonderful if they would be adopted together but it is not required.

Will someone please adopt Poppy and give her a forever home? $95 adoption fee.

WE ARE A NO-KILL 501-C-3 NON-PROFIT RESCUE. All donations are tax deductible. We do not have a shelter. All pets live in foster homes. We only adopt to indoor homes. To see an animal, you must fill out an application first and then once approved, we can set up for you to meet the animal you are interested in. We do background checks on all applicants. If you have assault, domestic abuse, or drug charges please do not apply. If you have questions, please send an email to waverlypetrescue@mchsi.com

All animals see a vet for shots and normal exams. If they appear healthy and there are no obvious health concerns, then extensive testing is not done. This is normal procedure for pet rescues and shelters.
Waverly Pet Rescue puts a lot of money into medical care for each dog and cat we take in. $200 is the average cost for basic care. This does not include if the animal had an injury, required extra flea / ear mite treatments, or needed extra days at the vet office.
