Meet Philip

Phillip is a 6 year old orange/white tabby we rescued off the streets of Ossining after he expressed interest in people. Phillip's has a snaggle tooth so sometimes when he raises his lip it looks like he's grinning at you! He's a very calm and reserved boy who likes to keep to himself, but will gladly receive pets from his human friends and purr loudly. He looks excited when his best (human) friends enter the room so we know he would like to live with them, but because he grew up outside he would appreciate a home/barn where he can live indoor/outdoor.

The Barn Cat is a very old breed who in all likelihood came over on the Mayflower with Pilgrims. These cats were a fixture in every barn across America. We have some for adoption- they would make great mousers and would require an outdoor shed or shelter. Our “barn cats” have good litterbox habits but are shy or fearful of people, prefer the company of other cats and range from small to large and come in every color.

All of our “barn cats” have been spayed or neutered so you won’t have to worry about endless litters of kittens appearing! If you have a working barn or safe, heated outbuilding, there are cats who need you. Having a barn cat or cats will help keep down the rodent population. These cats will be helping you, while you provide them a safe place to live.

Barn cats need: daily food and water (a cat cannot live on mousing alone); veterinary care as needed; and a secure place to keep them for the first 4-5 weeks while they acclimate to their new home. This can be a tack room, or any secure indoor enclosure.
