Pepper's Story

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.
We’ve had Pepper since we picked him up from a local impound on June 21. He joined his two siblings, who we had rescued a few days earlier. Watching Pepper’s transformation over the past three and a half months has been amazing.

From the start, Pepper adored his siblings and would happily lick treats off our fingers—but he made it very clear that he had no interest in being petted, picked up, or convinced to love us... at least for the first three months.

Once his siblings were adopted, Pepper seemed to accept that he was stuck with us. Slowly, he began to let us pet him more and more—and then, one day, he even let us pick him up! Now that he’s realized what he was missing, he lives for affection. He loves cuddling on the bed and never stops purring.

Pepper gets along well with other cats, is comfortable around dogs, and uses his litter box faithfully. This sweet boy is finally ready to find his forever home and soak up all the love he deserves for the rest of his life.

Pepper is from a local impound. If you are interested in getting to know this animal better, please fill out an adoption application. An adoption application is the best way to show your interest in an animal and is not a binding contract.

To learn more about Ruff Start’s adoption process and the care our foster animals receive, please visit our How to Adopt page.

If you are unable to adopt but want to help this animal and others in our care, you can donate to support the medical and veterinary needs of all Ruff Start Rescue animals.

Want to adopt a kitten? We highly recommend you consider bringing home two instead of one! Adopting kittens in pairs has been proven to be beneficial for cats’ emotional and behavioral well-being and greatly improves the likelihood of long-term adopter happiness as a result. Adopting more than one kitten also reduces the risk of “Single Kitten Syndrome” (also known as Tarzan Syndrome), a symptom of under-socialization during a kitten’s most formative weeks. Kittens who are under-socialized may develop aggressive tendencies toward both other animals and humans as they grow, creating lifelong behavioral issues for owners.
