Meet Peggy Sue

Peggy Sue: Beautiful, petite, pure white cat with a thick coat and green to yellow hued eyes, a real beauty. Sweet, polite and affectionate. 6 years old, spayed female.

But there is more to the story.

Peggy Sue was abandoned at the county shelter by her owner who could not, or would not, provide the medical care Peggy Sue needed.

She was suffering from multiple stones (6 in total) in her bladder, causing her severe pain. She wasn't eating, and was constantly straining in her litter box but only producing a few drops of pee.

We know nothing about her previous home life, and how the condition became so advanced. Usually symptoms are apparent when crystals are begining to form, long before they clump together to form stones.

Peggy Sue is still alive because several rescue groups and veterinarians worked together. A public fundraiser helped provide the funding that allowed Peggy Sue to get the life saving surgery she needed.

Now it's time to find Peggy Sue a forever home. A committed loving family who will work with us to ensure Peggy Sue has a long, happy and healthy life.

For the remainder of her life Peggy Sue can only* eat a prescription diet like Royal Canin Urinary SO (kibble and canned). The good news is she is already on this diet and loves it.

*That means NO treats.

This diet promotes a urinary environment unfavorable to the development of both struvite and calcium oxalate crystals which lead to stones.

The food is expensive. The Royal Canin Urinary SO kibble is $60/ 7.7 lb bag and the Royal Canin Urinary SO canned, 24 (3) ounce cans $62.

That alone might eliminate what would otherwise be a perfectly loving home.

If there are other cats in the home, keeping one cat on a restricted prescription diet, is very difficult if not impossible. So, we feel it would be easiest if Peggy Sue were an only cat - she'll love all the attention too!

But, if the adopter was motivated and committed, there is a way Peggy Sue could live with another cat.

Microchip feeders, like Surefeed, allow each cat to only have only access to their own feeder (their microchip unlocking and opening the feeder).

The feeders unfortunately are expensive, the Surefeed Microchip Feeder is about $259 (x 2 cats) plus one hub, an additional $84.

No one wants to see Peggy Sue to ever suffer again. Bladder stones are extremely painful; if you have had gallbladder or kidney stones you can probably relate to the kind of pain she has suffered.

If you're still reading, and this hasn't scared you off, and you'd like to meet this sweetheart, please fill out an adoption application at the link below.
