Meet Peggy

*Peggy will need a foster who can make a commitment to going at her pace while gently pushing her boundaries to help her open up to more in life.*

Oh, hey. What? I think you must’ve meant to click on one of the other cats. Don’t worry about it. It happens to me all the time. Why? Well, who wants a three-legged cat with RBF? What’s RBF? You’ve never heard of RBF? Well, I’ll tell you exactly what it is. I hear it enough. It’s “Resting Bleep Face”. Not resting bleep face, resting bleep face. Oh good grief! Well, you get the point. Moving on. Why do I have RBF? Trust me pal, if you were me, you would too.

Fine. Fine. You could try to blame it all on the Curse of 2020. Me, I blame it on bad luck. Besides, 2020 was actually the year of my salvation.
Cue the memory montage Petfinder.

It was mid-May, I was starving and in pain. Leg and paw broken somehow, I don’t recall how or even when. Just that it had been a long time. And my kittens! I had just given birth a week before and was desperately trying to care for them. I did everything I could and gave them everything I had. Suddenly, there were people around me. They had my babies and I overheard them say that only two survived and weren’t sure if they were going to make it. They sent them to the vet and since I was still so sick, they found some nice lady to take care of my kittens.

Then they set about using my hunger as a way to lure me in, and of course I fell for it. My defenses were down! They brought me to the vet as well and I was going to have to stay for a while. Apparently my leg/paw situation was bad. Like, unfixable bad and it would be best if they amputated it. And that’s when they realized we were all in better shape than they feared, just that we were all starving. While I was in the hospital, they got some history on me and found out that I’d shown up in the ‘hood around a year before and was hurt shortly after.

When they discharged me from the hospital, I was sent to stay at a foster home. And though my kittens were surviving and thriving, I couldn’t care for them while I recovered. Foster Mom Donna (FMD for short) was nice enough at first, but man alive, my life was a hot mess. Also, come to find out, they thought I was FERAL! Feral! Can you even believe that? Look at my regal beauty. Feral. Pfft. To prove them wrong, I allowed FMD to give me pets and scratch my back and remain in my presence while I ate. I even, um, purred. What can I say, it’d been a while since people had been so nice to me. She had other cats too and they were alright. They would even bring me toys. I was getting used to being around this one guy, then he got adopted (of course).

Getting around as a tripod wasn’t as tough as I thought it would be. Now they all “ohh” and “ahh” over my “adorable bunny hop”.

So, there’s my story. Wouldn’t you feel like the world had stomped on your heart too? The good news is, my two kittens were adopted into a wonderful home. So, now I’m looking.

People are a bit iffy for me still some days. They use words like “timid” around me. Treats help. Since things haven’t been great for me, I’d like someone patient and kind. I wouldn’t mind hanging around with another super chill cat. They say I am a "work in progress" and need someone who will understand that I have a tough time moving. So I need a commitment. A long-term foster or foster to adopt would be pretty good. I'd like time to get to know someone and have them give ME the attention and love.

Well, I guess if you’ve read this far, I’ll tell you I’m up to date on my vaccinations, can’t have anymore kittens, and they even put one of those fancy microchip things in me so if get picked up again they’ll know who I belong to. Oh yeah, I'm a few years old. I don't know exactly how many. Maybe 4 or 5 at most. Like I remember, I was just born. Humans!
