Meet Oreo (bonded with S'mores)
Oreo is a petite black and white, affectionate and social kitty. She LOVES to be around her “person” and snuggle. She bounds across the room to the door to greet her foster mom every morning with a big meow and lots of purrs. If you give her the choice between food, toys, or attention, she’ll pick cuddling 90% of the time! She is a master muffin-maker, and will sleep next to you as little spoon, on your pillow, or by your feet. She loves to “help” her foster mom work by walking across the keyboard and sitting attentively next to the computer, waiting for intermittent ear scritches. She is extremely social, vocal, and affectionate; she just wants her forever human to bond with.
S’mores is a beautiful Himalayan Persian boy and is a bit more reserved than Oreo. He seems to be a little special needs; sometimes you have to put the food in front of him for him to eat, or place him in front of the toy for him to play—he seems to take Oreo’s lead (we like to think of her as his emotional support friend)! He has the softest meow you’ve ever heard, so soft that you’ll wonder if you imagined it. His little pink tongue sticks out almost 24/7, giving him the most endearing look you’ve ever seen. S’mores spent the first month as a foster kitty hiding, needing gentle coaxing to eat and play. However with lots of love, gently picking him up and bringing him on the bed for cuddles, and playtime, he has blossomed into a very affectionate kitty. Like Oreo, he will also sleep on the bed as little spoon or at your feet, though he doesn’t stay on the bed all night like Oreo does. He prefers to get his pets, rest for 30 minutes and then jump down to sleep in his favorite cardboard kitty house. He LOVES to play but doesn’t seem to understand how to initiate this himself; he would do well in a home with someone who has the time to gently and patiently coax him out of his shell, and initiate lots of play time.
Both Oreo and S’mores would do best in a home where their person works from home to give them the attention they need and crave; a home without small children or dogs, as we believe that would be too overwhelming for S’mores—a calm, older dog who ignores cats might be okay. They would likely be fine in a home with other cats with proper introductions. While you won’t likely find them cuddling together, we believe they are bonded in their own way. Neither like to be picked up or held, but both will cuddle with you in bed. Oreo’s outgoing personality brings out S’mores’ more reserved demeanor and seems to help him feel more comfortable. We believe they are bonded in their own special way, so they must be adopted together.
Persians are high maintenance and often require daily grooming like brushing and wiping their faces; they are notorious for health issues, often needing vet visits for eyes/nose/breathing problems throughout their lives; pet insurance is recommended for this breed, and it’s important they are adopted by someone who has the financial means to keep up with their care for the rest of their lives.
It took a month for both of them to feel safe and come out of their shells, so someone patient is key. However now that they’re comfortable, they are very sweet, affectionate, and social and whoever gives these kitties their forever home will be the luckiest person in the world.
