Meet Okra

Okra was born on a farm and not socialized at an early age. Like many kitties from that background, Okra developed an initial hesitation around humans.

Okra has come SO far in her foster home, but she is still very slow to warm up to new people. Even though Okra's foster Mom has been around her/handled her the most, Okra seems more comfortable with men. Her new owner will need to be very patient with her and allow her time to adjust to her new environment. Okra does best when people don't approach her directly, but get down on the ground to play with her. Okra may hiss when she is scared, but she is not aggressive. She is very gentle with her foster Mom when taking treats.

Okra likes to play with string toys and carry cat toys in her mouth. She loves playing and zooming around with her brother, Oliver. Okra doesn't have a tail, but that doesn't affect her ability to get around at all. It just makes her look more like an adorable cat-bunny! Okra is most relaxed when Oliver is around. Okra looks to Oliver for comfort and confidence, so they must be adopted together!

Okra has not interacted with other cats while in her foster home. She has only briefly interacted with a dog and did hiss. She would probably be OK with a calm dog who left her alone. Okra is not good with children because their sudden movements and sounds scare her.

Interested in adopting one of our kitties?!

The first step in the adoption process is the adoption application which is located on our website rescueandadopt.org/adopt. There is a $15 application fee which is subtracted from the adoption fee. Make sure your application fee is submitted via our website and not on the Petstablished portal.

Our website includes a lot of info, including a FAQ page with lots of answers.

Once your application is reviewed we will contact you to schedule the home check video chat to ensure that you have all the basic supplies set up in an isolation/ introduction room and there are no health hazards to the cat in your home. We can also help answer any additional questions you may have at this time.

Next is the meet and greet with you and the adoptable kitty you're interested in. We are a foster system so we do not have a facility. Visits to meet an adoptable animal at a foster family is by appointment only. In the rare case that you decide your initial kitty isn't the right fit, we can introduce you to our many other types of cats to find the right fit.

Once you have settled on your new furry family member, the next step is to complete and sign the adoption contract with an ASHA volunteer to finalize the adoption.

Adoption Fees: $150 for kittens under a year old and $100 for cats over a year old. We do offer a 15% discount for adopting 2 adult cats at once.
