Meet Okra

Okra was discovered alongside his mother and sister in a taped-up box along the side of the road. A kind stranger took them in and fostered them for a few months, where he and his family relearned their trust in humans. Okra and his mother were taken to North Georgia Animal Alliance, and his sister stayed behind with her foster. However, the space available to them was too small to be comfortable, and so the mom and son came to Pet Placement Center in search of an environment where they would be more comfortable. Gumbo is 2 years old and Okra is 1 year old.

Compared to his mother, Okra took a little while longer to come out from hiding. He is the introvert to his mom’s extrovertedness, preferring to watch from the sidelines in order to build up his confidence. And he certainly has built up his confidence in the time he’s been at our shelter! Where Okra would once run away from encroaching hands, he now flops over and exposes his belly to people, and will even sit in their lap and rumble with deep purrs when they sit down. Okra has learned that he quite likes getting attention and will happily roll all over when he receives it. With his mother’s guidance and encouragement, Okra has really become a sweet and social boy! His stunningly gorgeous marbled markings are just the icing on the cake.

Gumbo and her son Okra would be great adopted as a pair, but would also be ok if separated as they have done fine around all of the other cats. They are sometimes seen hanging out together and bathing each other, so do still have a love for each other. Where Okra is the shyer of the pair, Gumbo attempts to bolster his confidence and encourage her son to get out and meet new people and cats. They would be happiest in a home without too much disruption, so ideally they would prefer a home with no young kids. At first they will likely be nervous in a new environment, but they will fully warm up within a few days to a week.

We're open Wednesday - Sunday 12 - 5 p.m but are doing meet & greets and adoptions by appointment only.

The adoption fee is $170 for both cats which includes a free veterinary exam within 2 weeks of adoption at local participating vets, up to date vaccinations, test for FELV/FIV, dewormer, flea preventative, microchip, & spay or neuter.
