Nikolai came to me sick, scared, sad, and in pain. He missed his human terribly and wanted to spend most of his time in his cat carrier where he felt safe. Nala was more outgoing. She was sweet but was her brother's protector also spending most of her time the carrier positioning herself in front of Nick to comfort him. Despite being terrified when they first moved in they have never been skittish or the least bit aggressive. They liked to hide but never hissed or growled when being retrieved nor scratched to get away from me and the many doses of medicine I had to give them each day. Even when they felt the worst they were always very loving. It took several weeks for them to get healthy and begin to feel like themselves but now they both come out happily whenever I enter the room, they love getting rubs (especially Nala), and are very excited to get their daily meals of crunchy cat food (they don't like the fancy stuff). They will both make wonderful easy pets. They are over their kitten zoomie phase, don't have a strong need for many toys, and would rather just cuddle and sit in the sun than scamper around the house. Nik is a little quieter but will meow to say hello and Nala will talk to you when she wants some love or a snack. I have introduced them to my energetic ten month old 45 lb. puppy and they immediately went to him, rubbed on him, then calmly returned to their food bowl. Even Finn the dog was surprised and confused by how well they took to him. He's been working at that for 3 months now with his resident kitty sister and still is struggling to get her approval! It would be amazing if there was a family out there who would like to take them together. Their owner passed away and they have since spent time in a shelter and a couple foster homes. They have had a lot of loss, upheaval, stress, and adjusting to weather and have done so thus far together. If you are looking for a pair of easygoing sweet love bugs who are determined to survive with grace Nik and Nala are your cats.
GDU does ask a minimum adoption donation of 120.00 for cats. This is a minimum donation and does not cover all expenses as we are funded solely by the angels and volunteers willing to donate time and finances. This minimum donation includes age appropriate vaccines and flea and tick treatment, as well as neutering or spaying if the animal is medically sound to undergo surgery. This minimum donation does not even begin to cover the actual expenses each animal has while in rescue, but does go directly towards vet care for our rescue animals.
