Meet Myrtle
* open to a palliative foster
My "friends" and I were a transplant from another rescue in Mississauga that was shutting down. I'm an extremely timid girl who spooks easily - but once I get to know you, I'm more outgoing. I'm happy to approach you and rub up against you and bask in your attention. I still get overwhelmed very easily, and sudden noises and movements will send me scampering away. I do well with one-on-one attention, but find it overwhelming when there's more than one human to focus on. My fight or flight kicks in very easily, and fleeing away is always my top choice. I'm not very motivated by treats or toys, but this may be largely due to me still having my guard up. I am positive for Feline Leukemia (FeLV) which essentially means I have a weakened immune system and am more susceptible to illness/disease. The type of FeLV I have is progressive which means I have a higher viral load, thus shedding more of the virus, and am at a higher risk of developing FeLV-related disease. The current literature states that I have a 20% chance of living past 4 years (but the study is only 4 years old and long term data isn't available yet). I recently had all of my teeth extracted and I healed up beautifully from the procedure. I eat both wet and dry food just fine! I'm hoping to go to a nice quiet home by myself with a very patient family, or to a home that already has a confident FeLV+ cat that can help teach me there's nothing to be scared of.
A palliative foster means that we provide supplies and vet care needed (as long as you use one of our partner vets), all we ask is that you provide our cat(s) with a loving home with lots of attention for the remainder of their life, or until it no longer works for you (or if you end up wanting to adopt!).Applications are reviewed in order received until an appropriate match is made.
