Moushumi.. Black & White, birthdate 4/19/2016. So 8 years old as of April 2024.

Moushumi was born a stray in Waterloo, Iowa. She gets along fine with the adult cats in the foster home and also with all of the foster kittens too! She is your typical kitten... playful, loves to rough and tumble with the others, loves to jump and scamper around and climb the scratching post... in other words, just a kitten who is enjoying life!

12/2/16 UPDATE: She is now 7 months old. She recently went to a new foster home. Moushumi is growing up to be a beautiful girl. She will need a family who will be gentle with her and allow her to get to know you. She will let you hold her for a little while and pet her. But she would prefer to get down and run and play. She may never be one that likes to be held, and this is ok. Not all kitties like to be held. It would be best for her to be in a home with polite kind older children that know when to give a kitty their space. Young children would be too much for her. Moushumi is also a talker, she likes to let you know when it is time to eat, haha. She settled in right away at our house, exploring all over after she hid under a bed for a little while. You will want to give her space when she hides, wait until she comes out on her own and comes to you. She does still hide when she gets spooked, but will come out once she knows it is safe. She is living in one room for now and she should do the same in an adoptive home. She needs to get to know you, adjust to your home before you let her out to the whole house. The whole house would overwhelm her, she would hide for a long time. Baby steps with a new kitty is best. She likes attention and to be petted, she will come to you when she wants petted. She still scampers away if i reach out to her too quickly. In time, that will get better.. She will again let me hold her, but not for long. She does well with my cat loving daughters, ages 9 and 12.

4/10/17 UPDATE: Moushumi is about a year old now. She would love a forever home!

2/14/18 UPDATE: She does well with those she knows and is bonded with. She is shy with new people. She loves to be petted though. If you try to pick her up, she will try to get away. She much prefers to be petted! She still does well with other cats if you make introductions properly and give her time to adjust. She loves to find a place up high where she can observe and watch everything going on.

Moushumi's adoption fee is $95.00. She was spayed on 7/14/16, her littermate Vivona, tested negative for both Feline Leukemia and FIV so she will be, too; has been given her first two FVRCP vaccinations and treated for parasites with Revolution; she received her rabies vaccination on 8/9/16. She has also been treated for worms but may need additional deworming as you cannot kill the eggs until they hatch.

WE ARE A NO-KILL 501-C-3 NON-PROFIT RESCUE. All donations are tax deductible. We do not have a shelter. All pets live in foster homes. We only adopt to indoor homes. To see an animal, you must fill out an application first and then once approved, we can set up for you to meet the animal you are interested in. We do background checks on all applicants. If you have assault, domestic abuse, or drug charges please do not apply. If you have questions, please send an email to waverlypetrescue@mchsi.com

All animals see a vet for shots and normal exams. If they appear healthy and there are no obvious health concerns, then extensive testing is not done. This is normal procedure for pet rescues and shelters. Waverly Pet Rescue puts a lot of money into medical care for each dog and cat we take in. $200 is the average cost for basic care. This does not include if the animal had an injury, required extra flea / ear mite treatments, or needed extra days at the vet office.
