Meet Misty *Transferred to Animal Lifeline in Iowa*

June 2022: Misty has loose stool health issues. We have spent 1000's of dollars at the vet and on special food to try and help her. We have now transferred her to Animal Lifeline of Iowa. They have more resources and can do even more testing on her to get this figured out. She is in good hands and they will take very good care of Misty.

Misty is about 5-1/2 years old as of April 2022.

Misty was a stray in Waverly, Iowa. Some kind people in SE Waverly have been feeding and caring for many stray cats over the years. Waverly Pet Rescue has been taking them in since February 2017. Misty is the 34th one we took in. So Misty is now a WPR cat. She is now up to date on shots, and spayed. And she also tested negative for FeLV / FIV.

Misty is about just barely over a year old as of October 2017. She has experienced a lot of loss in her young life, and came to us just after losing 6 babies. She is scared of new situations and needs time to adjust. After she feels safe and comfortable, she is very sweet and loves attention. She enjoys lap time and loves to give kisses. She is nervous being picked-up, and does not liked to be held. So a home with no small children would be best. Although she has lived with other cats, she hasn’t shown any signs of wanting to be around any. She is not aggressive with them. She just may never be best friends with another cat is all. She has not been exposed to dogs.

11/1/18 UPDATE: Misty has developed into a very affectionate cat and loves to lay on laps. She is definitely a people cat as she would prefer the love and attention of humans rather than other cats. She still is a nervous being held, but she'll let you pick her up and hold her for a short time. She would be great as an only cat, so she would not have to share attention, but she would also do well with non-dominant, non-aggressive cats. If she feels threatened by another cat she will hiss and swat, but she isn't vicious towards other cats. Misty is a wonderful cat and would make a great addition to a loving home.

4/16/21 UPDATE: Misty will need a home with need a home with no other cats and with no dogs. She absolutely loves people (so much that she doesn’t want to share with any other pets). Thrives in a calmer environment preferably with a window she can have access to, enjoys gazing outside and curling up in a sunspot whenever available. Mostly just wants to be loved and love her people in return. Very sweet and affectionate. Misty also had some health issues with loose stools come up due to stress. She is much better now since she is now in a new foster home with no other pets. Misty has been having more normal stools than not, and seems to be putting a bit of weight on. She’s been acting really content during her time with us so far. She will still occasionally (but rarely) let out the tiniest bit of poop seemingly unaware on the floor or rug, but seems to be lessening in frequency with time so far. But I’m still quite happy with her progress since her main poops in the box have firmed up so much since we first got her. With how much has already been tried with her with mixed success, she may always have some issues at times and seems to have a sensitive system. She will need a patient adopter, for sure.

We currently have her eating a prescription food with probiotics and will always probably require some kind of special diet for the rest of her life.

Will someone please adopt Misty and give her a forever home? $95 adoption fee.

All animals see a vet for shots and normal exams. If they appear healthy and there are no obvious health concerns, then extensive testing is not done. This is normal procedure for pet rescues and shelters.
Waverly Pet Rescue puts a lot of money into medical care for each dog and cat we take in. $200 is the average cost for basic care. This does not include if the animal had an injury, required extra flea / ear mite treatments, or needed extra days at the vet office.
