Meet Martha (Spayed) (Empty-Nester) (Special Needs) Photos July-August 2024
Thankfully one of our fabulous foster mothers (Lynn Bostrom) offered Martha and her kittens a temporary foster home on May 29th where they would receive extra TLC and have plenty of nutritious food.
Martha has a gray short smooth coat, a long tail, and a pretty face with golden eyes, a gray velvet nose, and long white whiskers.
Martha came back to HSOV in mid-July since she had been limping/favoring one of her back legs when she arrived at our shelter in late May, and the condition seemed to have become even more apparent.
Martha was given vaccinations, wormer, and flea treatment on July 17, 2024. She was examined by one of our wonderful local veterinarians that day and an x-ray revealed that Martha had a fractured femur bone in her right hind leg.
Martha underwent surgery to repair the fracture and was also given rabies vaccine on July 17th. The surgery was successful and Martha's leg is healing well. Her stitches were removed on July 31st though she still has a surgical pin in place. Martha is currently on 'cage rest-and-relaxation' to ensure that she continues to heal.
She was scheduled to have the surgical pin removed on September 18, 2024 if things progressed as expected. Unfortunately Martha's leg was not yet healed enough so the surgery to remove the pin (and to spay her while under anesthesia) was postponed.
This little sweetheart has a lovable outgoing personality and is a pushover for attention. Even when she was wearing 'the cone of shame' following her surgery, Martha was always ready for some petting and to be loved upon.
Martha is a fairly petite kitty who weighed 7.3 lbs on July 17, 2024.
These photos were taken during the months of July-August 2024 while Martha was recovering from her surgery.
Martha's kittens came back to HSOV on August 19th and were spayed/neutered on August 20, 2024. Martha (and their compassionate foster mother) provided a loving home for those five happy, healthy kittens who are now ready to find homes of their very own.
Four of Martha's kittens were adopted in late August 2024 and the fifth one was adopted on October 1st.
We hope that their mother (Martha) who gave them life and nurtured them under less-than-ideal conditions in the barn where she watched over them for the first 2-months of their lives will also find a fantastic home where she will be loved and cherished.
Update: Martha was spayed on October 30, 2024 and the surgical pin in her in her femur was removed. So she will soon be ready to find her dream home either through adoption or rescue.
Rescue groups may contact our HSOV Feline Rescue Coordinator via email (sharonpaul2@suddenlink.net). We can usually help with transportation.
