Meet Marshmallow
Adoption Application: https://new.shelterluv.com/matchme/adopt/ROSE/Cat
Marshmallow is a doll, a lovebug, an adorable menace, and your new best friend! She has suffered too much at the hands of humans, and yet she has never been anything but a loving and affectionate velcro kitty. She still loves people and wants to be your cuddle bug best friend!!
Marshy was adopted from the Harris County shelter in November 2024. In March 2025, she was dumped in front of the shelter clinic and then run over by her owners as they drove away. At just 10 months old she suffered a broken and dislocated jaw, cracked teeth, and head and throat swelling. The county shelter did not have the resources to treat her injuries, and reached out to local rescues for help. The ROSES community stepped up for Marshy, and got her the treatment she needed.
Marshy had surgery on her jaw, and had a feeding tube installed. Her foster fed her manually for at least a week. AND NOW MARSHMALLOW IS THRIVING! She made rapid progress and has made an almost full recovery. Her vet has cleared her for adoption!
Marshy is so special and deserves a special home. The primary lingering issue from her accident is partial blindness. Right after the accident, she was blind as a bat. She has improved dramatically since then, but her vision is very limited and it seems that she has no peripheral vision and poor depth perception. She is so brave and ready to figure out her environment despite her limited sight. Her foster home is 3 stories, and she is able to get up and down all the stairs whenever she wants!
Because she cannot see very well, Marshy needs some time to get used to new places and is on the defense around new people and animals. She also seems to have some continuing congestion that affects her sense of smell. She loves cuddling with her kitten friends, but sometimes she bops them if they come up too fast and she is not sure who they are. Notably, she is able to go up furniture and stairs, but very much struggles to go down them again. Her foster mom thinks it is because she cannot see or feel the ground beneath her when she is trying to get down from the couch. She gets a little nervous jumping off of things when she can't touch the floor first, but she is so brave and will learn to navigate her environment quickly!
Although Marshy-girl is partially blind, it does not seem to affect her quality of life. She has limitations, but she is always surprising her foster mom with her progress. Marshy would likely do best in a home where things are generally consistent, and she doesn't have to adapt to new environments very often. She would do well with older children who can understand and respect her needs and limitations while she continues to recover. For her safety, she absolutely cannot go outside unless it is in a fully enclosed catio or porch.
Marshy loves her fellow kitty friends, although sometimes, because she is mostly blind, she gets a little miffed when they come up to her unexpectedly. Marshy has never met a dog, but it is possible that with slow introductions she'd love a well behaved pup pal. The main issue with a pup would be keeping Marshy safe, since she cannot see to protect herself and is missing multiple teeth. A home with a dog that has ever been reactive to cats would not be safe for her.
Marshy is currently ~10 months old, spayed and microchipped, up to date on age-appropriate vaccines, and in great health! She does a great job of keeping her litterbox tidy. All she needs now is her forever home!
Marshmallow would thrive in a home with another kitty friend who can be her seeing eye kitten!!! She frequently relies on the other kittens in her foster home to show her how to get around. Priority will be given to applicants interested in adopting a pair of kittens or who have patient, playful resident cats or dogs at home. Information on why adopting two kittens together is best for their short- and long-term health and behavior can be found here:

Marshy is currently in Houston, Texas but can be transported to the Northeast, the Pacific Northwest, or locations along this route.
ABOUT OUR ADOPTION FEES:
When you adopt from ROSES Rescues, you're doing more than giving your new family member a home. Each adoption fee pays for a cat on the streets of Houston to get fixed, helping end the cycle of overpopulation in a rough environment. We thank you so much for your contribution to our efforts! To learn more about our TNR (Trap / Neuter / Return) efforts, please follows us on Instagram @roses_rescues_htx.
(All adoption fees also include transportation costs, spay/neuter of the animal, vaccinations, and microchipping.)
