Vaccinations up to date, spayed / neutered, special needs. Mama Rose is FIV+ FIV-positive cats are in fact very adoptable, and can live the same lifespan as an FIV-negative cat. This research has also debunked the myth that FIV- positive cats cannot safely live with non- infected cats. Being FIV-positive means that the cat has antibodies that have been exposed to the virus, although it can take years, if ever, before the cat develops any FIV infection and clinical signs referred to as Feline AIDS (Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome of Cats). If a cat has FIV, it does not necessarily have Feline AIDS. FIV is mainly passed from cat to cat through deep bite wounds, the kind that usually occurs outdoors during aggressive fights and territorial disputes,” according to the ASPCA. The virus is very fragile, and does not live for long once outside the body. It is destroyed by drying, light, heat and basic detergents.

Meet Mama Rose

Mama has a little rosebud of a pink nose and big green eyes. She is truly sweet, and likes to communicate with her foster family. She was raised in a multiple child household and is child friendly, and wants lots of love and attention, but she isn't a lap cat. Mama Rose is just starting to learn to play, and she will try to sneak your food if you aren't looking. She has never had a chance to be a kitten herself, and is looking forward to coming in to her own now that her babies are old enough for adoption. She would like to be adopted with her kitten Thumper, or to be a friend to an existing cat.

Mama Rose is FIV+, dewormed, spayed and microchipped for ID. False positives do happen, so we will be retesting Mama Rose in a few weeks. FIV-positive cats are in fact very adoptable, and can live the same lifespan as an FIV-negative cat.
