Latte (bonded with Chai)'s Story

Latte & Chai are bonded sister and brother now seeking their second chance at a loving home. With patient understanding and an openness to adjust to the cats’ initially fearful and reactive behaviours, their foster family have accommodated Latte and Chai’s need for stability and routine, and helped them to achieve a home space where both can happily settle into a calm and balanced lifestyle. The reward of watching these beautiful orange cats progress from being scared and hypersensitive to relaxed and engaging, has been a most gratifying and heartwarming experience.

Latte is a sweet and goofy cat who, despite her rough early years, has a lot of love she is eager to give. While she has trust issues, thankfully she is also brave and after some time in a calm and supportive environment, has let her guard down and is ready to accept love again!

After a few initial days of being scared, Latte then happily accepts pets all over her body and adores getting forehead kisses! She loves receiving your attention and may join you on the couch just to hang out. She enjoys playing with the wand toy or chasing the laser dot, and will stop whatever you are doing if you break out the catnip! She will tolerate being picked up for a short period of time before using her claws to wriggle away. Latte will sometimes, but rarely, allow her claws to be trimmed a few at a time. Her foster family is working to desensitize her to this, and small, patient steps will eventually lead to greater acceptance and compliance.

Latte can be quite the chatterbox, as she loves to announce herself before jumping up on the cat tree or running across the room. It’s as if she is saying, ‘hey! watch me go!’ as she prepares to show off her athleticism. She will also give you an adorable trill greeting when you enter the room, an active acknowledgement of her happiness at seeing her human!

Latte and her brother Chai have special litter box and dietary requirements that can be easily met and maintained: they need multiple litter boxes (at least 2, ideally 3) throughout their living space and must be cleaned frequently throughout the day. They are currently using Dr. Elsey’s Cat Attract Litter to ensure positive habits and doing very well with it onboard. Established routines and consistent accommodation will ensure positive litter box use, and patient understanding during their transition process is key to their successful integration.

They are on a special prescription diet to prevent urinary issues. Both Chai and Latte love the wet food offering, which is better for urinary and overall health. They are both currently fed using slow feeding lick mats, and with a bit of a distance apart, to encourage Latte not to eat too quickly and muscle in on Chai’s portion. Both love Churu creamy tube treats, and are ready to be bribed with them anytime!

Latte and Chai have come such a long way from distrusting little kittens to engaging and goofy, happy cats. Love, patience, and intuitive cat whisperer ability have propelled their progress forward to becoming wonderful pets. They are so eager to love with all their hearts, whenever you are ready!

Would you like to make Latte and Chai a part of your world? Please complete our online application found at: https://www.avacats.org/adoption-application-form.

Our adoption fees cover vetting and include spay/neuter, vaccines (initial FVRCP and rabies), flea treatment, two dewormings and microchipping.

Adoption fees are $250 for each adult cat 1 year or older. Please note that fees may apply for additional required vaccinations (at $75 per booster) due prior to adoption. Total adoption fees will be confirmed by the AVA Adoption Coordinator.
