Meet Joey

This is a courtesy listing. If you're interested in Joey, please contact Jen at 505-550-6491 (text only) or email her at jen@streetcathub.org.

Joey is retiring from her 8 years of street cat life. Originally a dominant presence in a downtown colony of 15 cats, she became the sole remaining resident. Her last buddy(BT, Broken Tail, who was feral), moved several blocks away to join another colony after being bullied by an owned tomcat. Joey stood her ground but now alone, presented us the opportunity to find her an indoor home with no disruption to her colony ties.

Joey is pretty fearful of other cats so she was placed in a foster home with no interaction with other cats. Being an only cat would be the simplest transition for her. She has become accustomed to being alone.

In foster, this sweet, sweet girl is always making biscuits (even in her sleep) and purrs easily. She loves to be pet (and seems to like being brushed) and has no problem guiding your hand to where and how she likes her pets, most especially her cheeks and nose. She has a pretty impressive elevator butt, too! She is also quite content to be able to keep you company. She is not a fan (yet) of kisses to her head although on her back seem to be okay. Lately she's been licking my fingers while "hugging" and making biscuits on my wrist.

She definitely likes her wet food and will eat whatever you give her so portion control will be important to keep her healthy.

While in foster she discovered playing with soft toys can be fun! She loved to throw them high into the air and then attack them when they fell.

Joey needs a patient adopter who will continue to help her build her confidence and show her all the good things that come with being inside. She spent so long outside always on alert that she needs time to learn that household noises and activities that seem scary aren't that scary. Go slowly with new things and situations and give her lots of reassurance. She would probably really enjoy a secure catio.
